{"id":218,"date":"2006-12-13T20:55:10","date_gmt":"2006-12-14T02:55:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valianthosting.ca\/clients\/daemon\/?p=218"},"modified":"2006-12-13T20:55:10","modified_gmt":"2006-12-14T02:55:10","slug":"day-4-read-a-ton-update","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/screamingpages.net\/?p=218","title":{"rendered":"Day 4 Read-a-ton: Update"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/geekzendaddy.wordpress.com\">GeekZenDaddy<\/a>, another participant in <a href=\"http:\/\/bubblesinmyhead.blogspot.com\/\">Zoe&#8217;s Read-a-ton<\/a> contest, turned me onto <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shelfari.com\/\">Shelfari<\/a>.\u00c2  Shelfari creates a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.shelfari.com\/she\/shelf\">personal book shelf<\/a>\u00c2 where you can showcase your books and share opinions of the books you read.\u00c2  I think I&#8217;m going to quite like using this service.<\/p>\n<p>Today I have a split update.\u00c2  I only managed to\u00c2 get through another 150 pages (give or take a few) in <em>The Last Juror<\/em> last night.\u00c2  Luckily for me,\u00c2 my eyes became heavy and I started to fall asleep\u00c2 just as I hit the second section of the book.\u00c2<\/p>\n<p>This evening I began reading Robert Mager&#8217;s <em>Preparing Instructional Objectives<\/em>.\u00c2  I&#8217;ve been planning to read this for work for the past few weeks.\u00c2  I&#8217;m about 50% through it and I&#8217;m loving it.\u00c2  The book is written in a &#8220;choose your own adventure&#8221; style where your reading path is based on existing knowledge or understanding of the topic.\u00c2  I&#8217;ll have to admit, I&#8217;m actually reading it page-by-page this time through.\u00c2  I&#8217;ll take the quick route through the next time I read it.<\/p>\n<p>Mager&#8217;s book is infused with a great sense of humour and fun.\u00c2  Page 6 has an amusing blurb advising that there&#8217;s no reason for you to be reading the page, and I&#8217;ve found my new favorite learning objective on page 21: &#8220;using a stick, beat a dead horse to oblivion&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The only downside I&#8217;ve found to the book so far is the fact that there are occassional references to page numbers (remember: it&#8217;s choose your own path) that when you flip to the page doesn&#8217;t actually have a number on it.\u00c2  For example, there&#8217;s a reference to page 33 but when you get to page 33, there&#8217;s no page number.\u00c2  Instead, it&#8217;s the first page of chapter 3.\u00c2  All in all, it&#8217;s a small complaint in what I&#8217;m finding to be\u00c2 a great book.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"technoratitag\">Technorati Tags: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tags\/shelfari\" rel=\"tag\">shelfari<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tags\/read-a-ton\" rel=\"tag\">read-a-ton<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tags\/john+grisham\" rel=\"tag\">john grisham<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tags\/robert+mager\" rel=\"tag\">robert mager<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GeekZenDaddy, another participant in Zoe&#8217;s Read-a-ton contest, turned me onto Shelfari.\u00c2 Shelfari creates a personal book shelf\u00c2 where you can showcase your books and share opinions of the books you read.\u00c2 I think I&#8217;m going to quite like using this service.
