My grandmother (on Dad’s side of the family) gave a cross and necklace to my mom after my parents married. My mom gave it to me when I graduated high school. About 6 years ago our house was broken into and the cross was stolen. I was so upset to lose a family piece, but my parents seemed happy that the hubby and I weren’t home at the time of the break-in. There was a bad spree of violent home invasions happening in the city at the time. However, it seems so trivial to mourn a piece of jewelry since losing my dad to cancer 2 months ago. Yeah, I’ve lost something really important to me.

Salad: What is the best Christmas present you ever received?

My hubby bought me a vacuum cleaner for our first Christmas together. We lived in an apartment with lots of crappy old ’70’s carpet and I desperately wanted one. Despite lots of people telling him buying me a vacuum would be the death knell of our relationship, he ignored them and bought me the present I still think shows that he really understands me.

Main Course: Tell about a favorite “hang out” place for you and your friends when you were in high school.

I was the nerdy loser with few friends.
