{"id":700,"date":"2008-06-11T09:19:56","date_gmt":"2008-06-11T16:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valianthosting.ca\/clients\/daemon\/?p=700"},"modified":"2008-06-11T15:36:56","modified_gmt":"2008-06-11T22:36:56","slug":"its-going-to-be-one-of-those-days","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/screamingpages.net\/?p=700","title":{"rendered":"it&#8217;s going to be one of those days"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some days I just shouldn&#8217;t get out of bed.\u00a0 I woke up this morning, did my standard ablutions, got dressed, and toddled off to the car to drive into work.\u00a0 The morning drive was pretty uneventful and traffic seemed really light.\u00a0 There are bonuses to school being out for the full-time students &#8211; traffic and parking most notably.<\/p>\n<p>I was feeling pretty spiffy since I&#8217;d managed to find a nice little suit jacket to pair with my outfit today.\u00a0 It dressed up my jeans nicely while still allowing me to enjoy the relaxed dress code over the summer months.\u00a0 I was plotting out my day and dreaming of my first cup of Timmies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After meeting up with a co-worker on the sidewalk outside the parking garage, I noticed something very strange.\u00a0 My pockets weren&#8217;t jingling.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t hear my keys.\u00a0 I did the mad dash pocket pat.\u00a0 I put hands in empty pockets repeately.\u00a0 In.\u00a0 Out.\u00a0 In.\u00a0 Out.\u00a0\u00a0As if by dint of repetition\u00a0my keys would magically appear.\u00a0 They didn&#8217;t.\u00a0 My co-worker (<em>bless her<\/em>) and I trekked back up the stairs to my truck.\u00a0 I had visions of keys sitting on my passenger seat roaming through my head.\u00a0 I distinctly remembered locking my door when I exited the truck.\u00a0 I always do.\u00a0 As we approached my truck I knew it was far, far worse.\u00a0 Not only had I locked my keys in my vehicle.\u00a0 I&#8217;d locked my keys in my <strong>running <\/strong>vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Go ahead.\u00a0 Get it out of your system.\u00a0 Laugh it up.\u00a0 Someday this will happen to you and I&#8217;ll be pointing and laughing with the rest of them.<\/p>\n<p>I knew we had spare keys.\u00a0 I knew exactly where those spare keys were.\u00a0\u00a0 They were attached to the hubby&#8217;s keyring.\u00a0 I have his spare keys on mine.\u00a0 Where was Drew?\u00a0 On base.\u00a0 At work.\u00a0 For hours.\u00a0 Not only did the driving world &#8211; or at least all drivers parking in the parkade this morning &#8211; have to know about my shame, but uniformed men and women were soon to discover my idiocy.\u00a0 I know a few of them already suspected I was absentminded and slightly loony.\u00a0 Now they have confirmation.<\/p>\n<p>Today would be the day when I&#8217;d decided I didn&#8217;t need to bring a cell phone with me.\u00a0 I had put it into my pocket this morning, had second thoughts, and decided that I should perhaps plug it in.\u00a0 Too lazy to bring the power cord to work, I plugged\u00a0my cell in at home.\u00a0 My co-worker (<em>double bless her<\/em>) handed me her phone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>How many people know the phone number for their local military base switchboard off the tops of their heads?\u00a0 Yeah.\u00a0 Me neither.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why I have phone numbers stored in my cell&#8217;s contact list.\u00a0 They&#8217;re not there to make me look popular.\u00a0 I called 411 &#8211; dialing &#8220;0&#8221; gets you no where on a cell &#8211; and struggled through the NLU phone menu.\u00a0 Idiot drivers racing through the parking lot made it hard to hear.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll pretend that&#8217;s the reason I was offered the phone number for the Edmonton Infant Death Support Society (or something similar) when I asked for the number for CFB Edmonton Garrison.\u00a0 Much button pushing ensued and I finally got to talk to a live body.\u00a0 She kept offering me the phone number for Canadian Forces Recruiting.\u00a0 I kept insisting I wanted Edmonton Garrison.\u00a0 If I hadn&#8217;t been so stressed it might have been hilariously funny.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When I got the number for the switchboard I waited on the line to talk to an operator.\u00a0 I needed the extension for the area Drew works in.\u00a0 If you don&#8217;t have that tracking a person down on base can be an exercise in futility.\u00a0 It&#8217;s not like the MP&#8217;s will wander the base calling &#8220;<em>Here Drewey Wooey.\u00a0 Come on boy.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a good boy<\/em>.&#8221;\u00a0 Then, instead of patching me through, the operator hung up.\u00a0I called the number I&#8217;d managed to piece together\u00a0and landed at the Sgt&#8217;s desk.\u00a0 Rather than passing the phone to Drew, he gave me Drew&#8217;s extension and hung up.\u00a0 So there I was.\u00a0 Standing in the parking lot with my truck running, lights on, and doors locked.\u00a0 Calling Edmonton Garrison for the\u00a0third time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brrrriiiing.\u00a0 Brrrriiiiing.<\/p>\n<p>And then Drew&#8217;s voice was on the line.\u00a0 Which meant I had to tell him what I&#8217;d done.\u00a0 I really needed that spare key.\u00a0 It couldn&#8217;t be helped.\u00a0 I spilled my guts.\u00a0 Drew asked where I was.\u00a0 I told him.\u00a0 He hung up on me before I could tell him which floor of the parking garage I was on.\u00a0 Ah well. He&#8217;d find me when he arrived.\u00a0 Depending on traffic, it&#8217;s a 20-45 minute drive to the college from Base.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I waited.\u00a0 Despite being patrolled by security guards, undesirables sometimes made their way through the parking garage.\u00a0 Occasionally the air in the stairwells would be thick with dope smoke or a vehicle would be broken into.\u00a0 Leaving a locked truck running just seemed like too much temptation to me.\u00a0 So, after profusely thanking my co-worker for the\u00a0loan of her phone and keeping me company I sent her on her way.\u00a0And I waited.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>More of my co-workers drove by and witnessed my foolishness.\u00a0 Some stopped to chat.\u00a0 D, the last in the office <em>before<\/em> Drew arrived, promised that his lips were sealed and that he wouldn&#8217;t tell a soul.\u00a0 I warned him it was all for naught.\u00a0 Everyone else already knew.\u00a0 *sigh*\u00a0 At around 8:30am (so much for getting to work early this morning) my knight in <em>not-so-shiny<\/em> uniform arrived.\u00a0 He switched his car off, handed me his keys.\u00a0 I opened my door, got my keys, and walked back to him loudly begging me NOT to lock his keys in my truck.\u00a0 Ha. Ha.
