{"id":703,"date":"2008-06-17T20:06:40","date_gmt":"2008-06-18T03:06:40","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/valianthosting.ca\/clients\/daemon\/?p=703"},"modified":"2008-06-17T20:35:31","modified_gmt":"2008-06-18T03:35:31","slug":"shameless-post-thief","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/screamingpages.net\/?p=703","title":{"rendered":"shameless post thief"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"entry\">Last year I signed up for the 52 books in 52 weeks reading challenge and found myself passing the 100 book mark half way through the year.\u00a0 Needless to say I gave up counting and listing the books I had read and just kept reading.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Today I dropped by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fruitsdemare.com\/\">Mare<\/a>&#8216;s place and found her reference to <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">2000<\/span> 1001 books to read before you die.\u00a0 I have a sneaking suspicion I&#8217;ll end up having read a number of them &#8211; and many more that never made the list &#8211; long before I&#8217;m 50.\u00a0 I&#8217;d say 30 but that bus left long ago. I have no life and few shiny pieces of university granted papers (just one so far) but I&#8217;d challenge anyone who&#8217;d suggest I wasn&#8217;t well read.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll just pretend that my current fixation with Military History and my on-going love affair with SciFi\/Fantasy are equally valuable ways to spend my reading time.<\/p>\n<p>I think I&#8217;m with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fruitsdemare.com\/\">Mare<\/a> on the concept of creating my own list.\u00a0 There were a number of books I would have included that are missing from this list.\u00a0 Perhaps I&#8217;ve just spent too much time reading Canadian and Indian literature lately&#8230;or maybe I just have bad taste&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re interested in the list it&#8217;s below the fold&#8230;\u00a0 <strong>*<\/strong> represents the books I&#8217;ve already read.\u00a0 I did have to refer to the books on my bookshelves to make sure I selected the correct ones.\u00a0 There&#8217;s a number of books with similar (or the same titles) that I&#8217;ve read.\u00a0 The double-check was to ensure I had the right books.\u00a0 The joys of &#8220;author matching&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upperdate for the curious:<\/strong> I&#8217;ve ready 374 of the 1001 books on this list (37%)<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><strong>2000s<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Never Let Me Go \u2013 Kazuo Ishiguro<\/li>\n<li>Saturday \u2013 Ian McEwan *<\/li>\n<li>On Beauty \u2013 Zadie Smith<\/li>\n<li>Slow Man \u2013 J.M.
