Didn’t get as much accomplished today as I would have liked. Then again, the day isn’t over yet.

Got a great start to my day. My new boss called to welcome me to my new job and give me some information regarding where I will be meeting up with her on the first day of work. I really like the amount of contact I’ve had with my new employers these past few days. It’s nice to be wanted.

A few minutes later I got a call for an interview for a job I’d applied for many weeks ago. It paid more than the one I accepted but wasn’t really what I was looking for so I didn’t feel too bad turning down the interview. A few of my co-workers also applied for the job. Hopefully they’ll get calls for interviews for the position and find it more to their liking.

After the call I spent the remainder of the morning studying symptoms and treatment for PTSD. The afternoon was spent picking up groceries and searching for shoes.

No luck in the shoe department. The ones I liked were all too big to fit properly. Think I’ll put off looking for dress shoes for a few more days. I really dislike shoe shopping!

Expect I’ll be spending the evening working on Stats homework. Can’t put it off forever…

    It’s a start

After spending most of the weekend reading about combat stress, fear and PTSD I managed to get an assignment completed this afternoon. Only 6 more papers to complete in order to catch up on in the next week and a half! I think I’m going to try and spread out the days by class so I’m not spending all my time on a single topic. This evening I’ll spend 3-4 hours on Stats and tomorrow I’ll work on my Experimental Psych class before cyclin back to Mil Psych. Here’s hoping I can stick to my plan!

Got my first Stats assignment back this afternoon. I’ll have to ensure I study it well in time for my exams since I managed to pull of a 90% and I’m still not certain I understand any of it. Granted a lot of my classes seem to follow that pattern until I have my big “ah ha!” moment close to the end of the semester.

Not everything has been about school today. I did manage to get some housework accomplished. I shoveled snow from the weekend storm and spent far too much time scrubbing my basement floor in an attempt to get it to stop smelling of peeved puppy revenge. Now it just stinks of lemony Mr. Clean. I think it’ll need another good scrub or two to be truely clean.

As much as I love the dogs – who forget I exist the minute Drew walks into a room – I do wish they didn’t come with so much baggage. Rescue animals come with some deep seeded issues and Hypnos’ all surround abandonment and food! Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good little beastie and behaves very well when I’m home. He’s got a great personality and is very friendly. He also has the worst case of separation anxiety I’ve ever seen and seems to only think with his stomach. Hopefully he won’t misbehave when I start the new job in a few weeks. Otherwise Drew will be spending his vacation time after returning home scrubbing floors too!

Speaking of the new job, I got a touch base call this afternoon. They seem to be as excited to have me as I am to start. I’m keeping my fingers and toes crossed that I don’t disappoint anyone. It’s a new department and I’m really looking forward to being part of their new beginnings. I like to think I have a lot of experience and knowledge to offer my new employer.

    Unpopular opinions

Isn’t it supposed to be spring? Looking out the window – or trying to take the dogs for a walk – today makes one wonder.

Hey, I’m Canadian. When we’re not talking about hockey ot Timmies Roll Up the Rim contest, we seem to fall back on complaining about the weather.

Of course all those semesters of Enviro Science classes make me less willing to jump on the “man made climate change” bandwagon. Now, I’m certainly not suggesting that we humans haven’t had an impact on ozone levels and climate but I do think the level of human involvement in natual planetary cycles has been taken way out of proportion.

What’s the point of being self-aware if we can’t think that everything is all about us? To a certain extent, that’s what I think has helped make “climate change” the new sexy trend to blindly follow this century. Whether true or not, I think this sense of self-import plays a part in the public popularity of purported “climate change”.

Good thing most climate change fans haven’t had to suffer through semesters of Enviro Chem and Enviro Science classes and had to slogged their way through a number of dry textbooks before being authorized to spout off the opinions to the masses. If they had, they might find their response to the concept of “high impact man made actions” bearing the highest level of responsibility for weather patterns becoming more jaded with each class completed.

Any checks of the historical record will turn up freezing winters and hot summers over a hundred years ago. Before mass immigration to Canada, before the baby boom, and before the excavation of the oil sands.

Studies of ice cores and rock stratia show multi-year climate cycles going back thousands of years. What is now desert in Africa use to be lush and fertile valleys. Nature’s cycles have more influence than we’ve been giving them credit for of late.

Perhaps we need to re-learn that we cannot control everything in nature. Nor should we be able to. I think it would help keep us humble.

Maybe then we can focus our energies on things that we mere humans can control – like our treatment of those around us.

Going to spend the next little while learning my way around downtown, getting clothes tailored – still many pants to have hemmed and cuffed – and catching up on papers and school work. Not sure how this will impact my blogging schedule.

    Resigned

Yesterday late afternoon I received my job offer so today I tendered my formal resignation from my job. It was a formality since I’d already received my formal lay-off notice from my current job. I gave two weeks and a few days notice and as much as I will miss all my former co-workers I know this is the right decision for me. I’m still walking around on cloud nine from the news yesterday.

Sure, the gov’t might not pay the best compared to some of the other jobs I applied for but I think it’s a really good fit for my interest and skills. I think I’m going to enjoy myself in the new position.

Highlight of my day? Response to my resignation letter = Oh crap!

It’s a little late for anyone at my previous employer to be having second thoughts don’t you think?

UPPERDATE: apparently the respose was actually “holy crap”. I mis-spoke.
