I’m a huge fan of my iPhone and one of my favorite applications of late is Twitterific. I’ve become addicted to tweeting from my phone. Twitter, for those who aren’t aware, is a social communication tool that allows members to provide and read 140 character messages about items in your daily lives or items of interest. It’s a great way to keep up with leaders in education and social media, interweeb celebrities and comic artists, and friends. It even allows you to update your Facebook status. The only downside I’ve managed to find to date is the overwhelming urge I’m fighting to constantly check in and find out what people are up to. Skip interweeb addiction. Themes addiction of the masses might just be Twitter. Rehab might be in our future. Until then I’m all for getting my fill.

Anyone who knows me knows that I can be a bit of a loud mouth schnook when it comes to speaking up for things I believe in. I’ve never really learned the knack of picking the right hill to die on. Today Dr. D and I learned that we’d been hand picked to participate in the not so hush hush project that could bring about real change in our daily lives and the future. I’m honoured that the powers that be think I’ve got something worthwhile to bring to the table. Tech skills come inhandy finally And being an online undergrad student it should come as no surprise that I’m seen as an advocate for students. Will be interestig to see how this all plays out over the next little while. Keep your fingers crossed.

For the past few years Mimi has sponsored the Blog Blast for Peace.  My past globes and comments are here and here. This year I take comfort from the symbolic repatriation of Canadian soldiers who fought and died in WWI. We should never forget the sacrifice of those who have gone before us and whose efforts have helped build the world we live in today.  With Remembrance Day just around the corner and the ranks of veterans who carry the memories forward growing thinner each year, it is especially important to acknowledge the message they have worked so hard to promote – Never Again.

An odd message to appear on the blog of a soldier’s wife.  However, as I’m sure many past soldiers also believed, he and many current serving military members still hold fast to the belief that they fight so that future generations will not have to. The things we take for granted here – ample food, fresh drinking water, basic literacy skills, freedom to worship in a religion of choice, freedom of expression, etc. – are still lacking in so many places.  So much still needs to be done.

Two nights ago we bore witness to change in the Western world.  The first non-white President was elected in the United States of America.  This action has fostered great excitement and placed a huge weight upon Mr. Obama’s shoulders.  Let’s hope he is up to the challenge.

There is still much that needs to change in the world.  While the US was willing to accept a non-white President, gay marriage bans were passed in California, Florida and Arizona.  People continue to be held back by the unwillingness of others to embrace love and change and to accept others for who they are, not who others think they should be.  Families are still struggling to make ends meet and curable or controllable disease still runs rampant in many parts of the world.  Women still struggle to be considered equal.

    We continue to hope.

    I hope I haven’t ruined everything

I have a friend who blogs in the dark.  It seems to be one of those secret blogs more for personal reflection than anything else. I respect this person more than anyone else I currently know.  And I pray I haven’t just stolen away his one place to vent. I’ve been waffling about commenting for a while.  Wanting to offer encouragement and let him know he’s not alone. Afraid that if I did it would force him to hide a little bit more. Perhaps I was never supposed to find the blog or figure out who the author was.  Dangers of random blog surfing when searching for answers to questions better left unasked.  I never let him know I’d found it. I didn’t want to disturb his peace. Today I was selfish. I needed to comment and to share. And now all I can do is hope I haven’t ruined the experience for him and taken away his haven.

But I still think you should spend equal amounts on charitable giving.

Perhaps the reason why I love the Firefly ‘verse so much is because I love cheering for the little guy. The underdog.  The odd man out.  What have you.  I like to shop in the small, unique stores and purchase art from local artists. I support those who do things a bit differently.

Perhaps that’s why I’ve been buying a lot of things over the interweebs lately. Paypal is considering awarding me a shiny crown and scepter (sha ‘right). I’ve bought the Dr. Horrible videos, soundtrack and t-shirts. I’m eagerly awaiting the DVD. I’ve filled my hankering’s for Firefly goodies by supporting Kids Need To Read auctions and have selected and ordered comic prints from HijiNKS Ensue. I’ve got The Guild season one on DVD (well, I will as soon as I get it back from Dr. D) and am eagerly awaiting the release of the Legend of Neil episodes on iTunes Canada. Oh, and I want a T-shirt too Sandeep!

Supporting innovated and talented artists means that they can continue the work they do.  Thus, you can continue to be amused.  I was thrilled to see the announcement of release of The Guild T-shirts over at J!NX.  Imagine how sad I am to discover that the shirts aren’t yet available for sale.  Every time I visit the page I see the “coming soon” message.  ARGH!  I feel like a toddler in a toy store.  I want one NOW!

    And so should you.
