I can’t blog the details at the moment but I finally got a call from the base. I now know when and where to pick up Drew when he returns to Canada. Yippee!

My new boss is giving me the day off and I can’t wait to see him.

Lots of planning (and cleaning) to do before he lands in country. The dogs will be thrilled at his return and I know all the neighbours are looking forward to seeing him again soon.

    Ticketmaster blues

I awakened to a ringing phone this morning. Neighbours calling before I was ready to face the world. They wanted to know if I could go online and get tickets to an upcoming concert.

No problemo I said. Stay on the line I said. Shouldn’t take anytime at all. At 10:00:15 am I get the prompt to complete the captcha and prove I’m human. We’re sailing along. Plopped in the number of tickets desired – 4 – and clicked the Floor seating option. I thought things were looking good.

Apparently Ticketmaster’s ordering system had other ideas.

After “waiting in line” for 9 minutes, the system returns a “no seats available” error message. So now I have to start all over again. This time I choose “best available/any price” for the 4 seats. My neighbour really wants good seats but at this point I’m thinking ANY seats would be good. Then I wait. About 20 minutes this time. 30 minutes since the tickets went on sale.

Only to get the same message. No seats available. Hello? This is a 30,000+ seat stadium. How the hell did they manage to sell out all 4 people groupings in 30 minutes?

So I tried again. For 2 seats this time. Another 8 minute wait on deck. Same message, which is actually “sorry, no exact matches were found, but other tickets may still be available”. I am not amused.

Sure, tickets are available. Just not on Ticketmadter. You can get lots of seats on ticket broker sites. 68-99$ tickets are being offered for between 200-2500$ USD. The neighbours budget doesn’t stretch that far!

Ticketmaster continues to disappoint. And the neighbour’s birthday gift plans are up in smoke…

I think I’ll go back to bed.

Haven’t been blogging a lot lately. It’s getting close to the end of the winter semester at school so I’m frantically trying to finish assignments and prep for exams in two weeks. I’ve a nice solid A in my Mil Psych course pre-exam and feeling pretty confident about the subject matter. Wish I could say the same about my other two classes. Stats and Experimental Psych are somewhere in the realm of B going into exams. I’m hoping I don’t mangle the exams in those two classes. I have an extra few weeks before I need to start worrying about them though. Only bright side about the courses.

There’s a lot of subject matter and new systems to learn at work so I’m pretty busy there. The overall environment is very different from the college but in a good way. Everyone seems more relaxed and laid back. Kinda like our office was when we got into giggle fits back in the day. Oddly enough, for a government office, there seems to be a lot less politics here. Then again, everything is still so shiny and new.

One thing I have noticed off the bat is that there’s more opportunity for me to do the things I enjoy and to offer input. It’s nice to be heard and appreciated 🙂

And everyone talks like the 12 month probation period is just a quick formality to walk through. My new boss is already talking about upcoming raises in Sept. and April! Raises always make a girl happy.

I do miss my former co-workers. We had talked about getting together for drinks or dinner after it was all over but I haven’t heard anything yet. Maybe it’s all still too soon. Then again, Dr. D and Big Momma R do no where I live so there’s no excuse for not dropping by for a beer on the back patio some day. They just can’t come in the house. Tornado puppies have done quite a number on it lately *sigh* That goes for everyone, you too D.

Last thought of the night surrounds my glasses. Now that I have my new prescription I’m thinking about taking my old frames in to get new lenses put in them. Over the years I’ve learned that you can never have too many spare pairs of glasses. I just need to check out the pricing before I commit to anything. Considering what we paid for these frames, I think it’d be a shame not to reuse them. I couldn’t get new lenses put in them when I got my new glasses because I needed them to see so I could drive while I waited for the new ones to arrive. At the time an old weaker prescription was better than no glasses at all…

Weather is beautiful. Think I’ll go enjoy dinner on the deck before I tackle more homework. Hope everyone else is taking the time to enjoy the evening as well.

The world needs more storyteller musicians

Saw Gordon Lightfoot with my neighbour L last night. He had a cold and the sound wasn’t the best but he’s still the ultimate storyteller and songwriter. Second only to Leonard Cohen in my mind. No worries though Drew. L and I agreed that you didn’t miss anything and wouldn’t have liked it. Just like Oatmeal Crisp, the concert was unpalatable. Yeah, that’s our story and we’re sticking to it.

Bah! I had this fabulous post about the weather all ready to go and them my internet connection crapped out after clicking the publish option. Now my draft version has gone missing and the post didn’t happen.

On the bright side you’ve all been saved from the joy of reading my whining about how wonderful it is to see the snow gone. And how crappy it is to hear a heavy snowfall warning on the news today. Man, that sucks. Especially since I spent a big chunk of my weekly phone call telling Drew how nice and warm it’ll be when he gets home. Mother nature appears to have other ideas – for this weekend at least.

The walk to the LRT could be interesting tomorrow. Guess I’ll need to dig out my winter boots and pack my dress shoes to bring to the office. 10 – 20 cm of snow is not walking in dress show weather. Not if you want your feet to remain to remain warm and dry. Which I do.

Guess you didn’t miss my whining about the weather after all. Mea culpa.

Tomorrow night L and I head out to see Gordon Lightfoot at the Jubilee. I really wish Drew were here to attend since he and I had been planning to go for months before he headed overseas. I’m sure L will make a great stand in date. L’s a fan so at least we know for certain he’ll enjoy the music right along with me.

April is a big concert month for me. In a few weeks I’m off to see Leonard Cohen with R&R. Yet another concert I would have liked to see with Drew. I don’t think we’ll have many more opportunities to see concerts like this in future.

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. Mine was meh! Too much school work. Not enough fun-time.
