  • Snow?

April 23rd, 2009 she Posted in Random Burbling 1 Comment »

This morning I had to be awake at 0 dark 30 to catch a seat on a gov’t plane for a trip to Calgary. The mighty Dash 8 was packed with gov’t employees off to attend meetings down south. I’m here to proctor an exam and meet the local staff.

Couldn’t believe how cold, snowy and icy everything is in #yyc. Not at all what I expected this late in April. I hear Edm has managed to miss most of the weather front that has moved in down here. Hope it stays that way.

While I’m safely ensconced down south there has been an apparent murder/suicide at the mall where my dentist office is located. News is scarce at this time so I’m hoping Dr. T, M and A are safe and sound. As much as I dislike dental appointments I really do like my dentist and his staff. I wouldn’t want anything to happen to them!

Today I proctor an exam. Tomorrow I write mine. What an interesting little world I work and live in.

    Wait 5 minutes

Bah! I had this fabulous post about the weather all ready to go and them my internet connection crapped out after clicking the publish option. Now my draft version has gone missing and the post didn’t happen.

On the bright side you’ve all been saved from the joy of reading my whining about how wonderful it is to see the snow gone. And how crappy it is to hear a heavy snowfall warning on the news today. Man, that sucks. Especially since I spent a big chunk of my weekly phone call telling Drew how nice and warm it’ll be when he gets home. Mother nature appears to have other ideas – for this weekend at least.

The walk to the LRT could be interesting tomorrow. Guess I’ll need to dig out my winter boots and pack my dress shoes to bring to the office. 10 – 20 cm of snow is not walking in dress show weather. Not if you want your feet to remain to remain warm and dry. Which I do.

Guess you didn’t miss my whining about the weather after all. Mea culpa.

Tomorrow night L and I head out to see Gordon Lightfoot at the Jubilee. I really wish Drew were here to attend since he and I had been planning to go for months before he headed overseas. I’m sure L will make a great stand in date. L’s a fan so at least we know for certain he’ll enjoy the music right along with me.

April is a big concert month for me. In a few weeks I’m off to see Leonard Cohen with R&R. Yet another concert I would have liked to see with Drew. I don’t think we’ll have many more opportunities to see concerts like this in future.

Hope everyone had a good holiday weekend. Mine was meh! Too much school work. Not enough fun-time.

    Long weekend

April 11th, 2009 she Posted in Random Burbling 1 Comment »

Spent my Friday writing a paper and working on assignments. Lots and lots of hard work sitting in a chair all day and typing away. Actually, it wasn’t too bad. Only problem is, I have many more papers to complete before the semester and I still haven’t found a replacement chair for my office yet.

Today I am busy being crazy (or is it lazy). Hopped out to G&E pharmacy for cat food this afternoon and finally picked up my Gordon Lightfoot tickets for next week’s concert. I’m sorry that Drew will miss it but I think L will enjoy being my “date” for the evening. He’s a big fan as well and taking him is the least I can do after he spent a large part of this winter being my snow shoveling fairy.

I spent the rest off the day being little miss homemaker. I vaccuumed, washed dinners, did some laundry, and cooked. Someone better check to ensure I haven’t been taken over by some sort of alien pod-person. I don’t even recognize my behaviour today.

Expecting the hubby to be home before June and going a little crazy now that the countdown has begun. Not knowing when he is coming home has made the duration of his absence seem longer. Then again, the original plan would have has him home last month so I guess not knowing when he’d return has forced me to be a bit more self reliant than I’ve had to be in the past. Or perhaps that’s just because I’m not used to being stuck home alone over an entire winter.

It’s a lot easier to manage whem there’s no snow on the ground to contend with.

Ok. Enough whining for now. Off to bed. Take care blog ‘verse.

    Day Three

    April 8th, 2009 she Posted in It's a Living, Random Burbling 5 Comments »

Day three is the new job and I’m really enjoying it. I dunno. Maybe I was cut out to be a gov’t employee 🙂

I know it still has that “new job smell” and I’m still in the honeymoon phase but I’m loving what I’ve learned about my new position and department to date. I think that’s an auspicious start.

I’ve since learned that if I’d accepted one of the jobs I turned down an interview for I would be working with whoever would be doing my new job. I’m wondering if any of my former co-workers interviewed for or accepted the position. This may end up giving us an additional opportunity to work together. Could be fun.

Last night I went to the #yegtweetup with Loxley. I met some new people and am surprised at how easy it is to relate to everyone. I am always thankful that Loxley comes with me since I’d never attend these events alone. When Drew comes home I need to drag him to one. People have heard of him and want to meet him. apparently you don’t need to tweet to drink beer *w00t*

The trains to work are often crowded but I’m learning to be patient and wait for a less cramped train on the way home. I’m looking forward to claiming the tax credit for using public transit next tax season. At 70+ $$ a month for passes the tax credit is a big incentive to take public transit to work. I’ll admit it. I’m bribable with me own tax dollars.

Lots of studying left to do. Off to do homework. Have a great night everyone.

    Clothing FAIL

March 31st, 2009 she Posted in Random Burbling 2 Comments »

Went to the tailor’s today (finally) and discovered that sometime over the past few months they’d closed up shop. Not good. Not good at all.

Now I have to search the Edm yellow pages – oh, who am I kidding, I’ll just use Google – to find a new tailor.

Finding a good tailor is not easy. Especially if you want a suit jacket adjusted. Many corner tailor shops can hemm pants, but not everyone can deal with modifying cuffs and darts in lined jackets.

So, if any of my readers in #yeg know a great tailor, I’m accepting recommendations in my comments. Please.
