Today in a phenomenal example of the power of social media, Epic Change launched a Twitter campaign outlined at http://tweetsgiving.org. Asking people to Twitter about what they are thankful for and to share the wealth by donating whatever they could to help build a school in Tanzania. In 48 hours they are hoping to raise re required 10,000$ one 10$ brick at a time. Twitter members are offered an opportunity to include one 140 character message of thanks to be written on their bricks. When I first learned of the fundraiser approximately 1800$ had been raised. When I checked the site at dinner time they’d raised 3000$. It certainly looks encouraging. I have my brick. Have you bought yours?

It’s Monday morning and I’m freezing blues

November 24th, 2008 she Posted in Random Burbling 2 Comments »

I’m not a fan of getting up in the morning, looking outside, and seeing nothing but darkness.  I’m even less thrilled when I leave my windowless office each evening and stumble to the parking garage in darkness.  This is the farthest north I’ve ever lived and I’m still not used to the extremely short days during the winter.

Obviously I do not suffer from this problem in the reverse.  I love the summer.  I’m thrilled when the sun comes up at 0 dark 30 in the morning and goes down sometime around 11pm in the evening. I like sitting out on the back porch with a good book and a beer at 9:30pm and not need lights to read by.

    Or blankets to snuggle under.

Along with the dark comes the cold. Now that lizard boy is home the house should be warmer. While I might shiver and suffer in a colder house – throwing sweater after sweater on to keep warm – Drew just can’t manage to stay warm enough if the house temp is set to 16C.  He needs it to be a balmy 18C at least.  Call it my green act of the winter.  Low heat settings.

The sad thing about our temperature setting is that 16C is really nice on a spring day.  Unfortunately, thanks to the ambient temperature outside, it doesn’t do too much to keep the chill off in winter.

It’s not even officially winter yet and I’m already pining for spring.  This does not bode well for my sanity in the upcoming months.

    Homecoming

November 20th, 2008 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

After a lengthy ground delay due to snow leaving Toronto, Drew landed in Edmonton just before one am. It was another 45 minutes before all the luggage was collected and we headed home. Doors opened and attack dogs released just after two am. It’s always nice driving through the city late at night. With little to no traffic on the roads the time required to make the trip to and from the airport shortens by nearly half.

We’re home relaxing tonight and tomorrow I need to finish my psych paper. Probably would have helped if I had started working on it before today. I’ve been spending my spare time reading and catching up in my classes so it’s not like I’m completely unprepared. I just have to transfer my notes into coherent sentences. I’m sure I’m up for the challenge.

No news on the super secret excitement front. Continuing to cross fingers and toes for luck.

    T -10 point something hours

November 19th, 2008 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

Please stand by for an important announcement.

Drew is home in approximately 11 hours. I need to nap when I get home from work or driving the hour to the airport to pick him up. Otherwise it could make for a very interesting drive.  I’m a little – ok, probably A LOT – night blind and prefer not to be the one driving at night.  Of course, to Drew it will seem like 2 or 3am when he lands so perhaps he shouldn’t be driving either.  Thus, I must soon head home to nap.

    That is all.

    Anticipation

November 18th, 2008 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

I got a completely unexpected and out of the blue email recently that has started my mind wandering. While I hadn’t given too much serious thought to the idea previously, I must say it’s grabbed my attention this time round. Divided loyalties are a bit of an issue but my door ears inbox is open and welcomes new updates. I’m on pins and needles to see how it all turns out. You should be too. Cryptic I know. I don’t want to jinx anything. I’ll update if/when possible.  Until then, you can join me in the nervous nelly anticipation phase. Pull up a seat.  Try not to chew your finger nails too much. It hurts when you get to the quick and doesn’t look all that professional or presentable.
