Each year since returning to Canada full-time in 2007, I have counted the poppies I see people wearing from the day the poppy campaign begins until 11am on November 11th. I'd tally up the count, donate 0.10$ per poppy, and send a cheque to a local veterans organization.
It used to be a sizeable donation.
In recent years, I've noticed my poppy count decreasing. I worry sometimes that people have begun to forget the past. I worry that we will soon relive their horrors in our future.
I don't base my donation on poppy counts anymore. And I no longer wait until Remembrance day arrives to make them.
I am changing too. Hopefully, for the better.

Last year on this date I was traveling around Agra with my co-worker Ted. We spent a sleepless night listening to a massive party and woke early in the morning to watch the sun rise over the Taj Mahal. It marked the occassion of what would have been my dad’s 68th birthday in a way I’ll never forget.
This year I’ll be digging out from a snowstorm and frantically writing in an attempt to complete my latest paper before it’s due.

One of the bonus’ of moving hosts is that you finally get the kick in the pants you need to get parts of your site you’ve been ignoring into better shape. While my other domain still needs a lot of help, I have managed to add new photos to my online photo albums.
For those of you looking for more than what I’ve previously posted in my travel entries on this blog, you’re sure to find something you like there. I’m not the most skilled with a camera but occassionally I did manage to take a decent picture.
For those of you who are famliar with the story of MOT from Dust My Broom, you can view more pictures of our travels together in the MOT album.

I left India on Saturday evening (IST) and landed home on Tuesday at 11pm (MT). Yesterday, I slept all day and today I’m back at work.

Once again I wave goodbye to Bangalore and fly through Singapore to land in Manila. In order to make use of my existing ticket and save money, I have to fly back to Edmonton via Manila. 56 hours in the air or in airport lounges, and just over 12 hours in Manila to grab a bite to eat with my friends before starting the last half of the journey back to the great white north.
*sigh*
I won’t miss the crazy work hours, but I will really miss India and the Philippines. The sounds, the smells, the food – and most importantly – the people.
