  • ProLinks – Links for Progressive Information

I’ve come across the blog Pinoy Stupid a number of times in my travels through the ‘net. As someone who has visited the Philippines, I found a connection with the writer that often resulted in my smiling and laughing (or nodding my head) when reading the posts.

Recently while visiting Pinoy Stupid I came across the ProLinks concept. In the blogging world, traffic is king. There are a number of ways to gain additional traffic on your blog with link exchange programs being the most popular. The downside of most of these programs is that bloggers participating in these types of programs have no idea if people are bothering to read their content and if their ideas and commentary make a difference in anyone’s lives.

ProLinks is a link exchange website that promotes not just blogs and URLs. We promote CONTENT. We fight the battle against illiteracy by featuring blogs that contain meaningful content. We make your words echo over the internet, make it flow like a steady stream of water and break seemingly solid boundaries. We build a compendium of blogs with a mission and a vision – to progress towards a literate, more intelligent world.

It’s an intriguing idea and I’m thrilled to be a part of this new undertaking. I don’t know if we’ll be able to meet the stated goals, but I am very interested in trying. Please take a few minutes out of your busy day to visit the site and learn more about the project.

Second round blog nominations are now posted for the Canadian Blog Awards and I’m sorry to say that neither my site nor Dust my Broom or Caylynn’s Contemplations made it on to the second round. Thanks to everyone who took the time to vote for me during first round nominations this past week.

    i am unique

Well, my name is at least. I plugged my name into the HowManyOfMe.com and found nada, nunca, zip.

    HowManyOfMe.com
    Logo

    There are:

    0
    people with my name
    in the U.S.A.

    How many have your name?

It’s a US based site, but it was still interesting to see how my names stacked up. There are tens of thousands more individuals with my maiden name than my married name. Out of all the millions of US names in the database, there are only records of 870 people sharing my *new* last name. My first name isn’t even in their database I’m so statistically insignificant.

I always knew I was special.

    an offer shall be made

The Dominion Institute petition was successful. Canoe is reporting that the “House of Commons unanimously approved a motion Tuesday asking the government to offer a formal state funeral for the last Canadian veteran of the First World War.”

You can read the press release here.

This isn’t to say that the last surviving WWI veteran will have a state funeral, only that the offer of a state funeral will be made to the family members upon his death.

blog roomies pick up after themselves

I participate in the Blog Explosion site traffic program. Basically. you visit other people’s blogs and in turn your blog is randomly shown to them at a ratio of 2:1. I’m not too impressed with the the service most days – it seems to me that I’ve visited far more blogs than have had visitors sent my way.

The flip-side is that I’m exposed to a number of different bloggers and their writings. Some you wish you hadn’t, but there’s always a number of excellent blogs out there. Per the BE terms of service, you’re supposed to spend a minimum of 30 seconds on each blog. I’ve found lately that I’m spending on average 5-10 minutes on the bulk of the sites I’m visiting.

The best thing is the Rent my blog service. For a pre-set number of credits, you can bid on space at another bloggers site. Some bloggers will write a brief blurb about your blog, while others just offer a corner of their world to hang out in. There’s a lot of stiff competition for rental units and you can only hope that something about your own blog speaks to the person renting space on their site.

Last week, I rented space at Caylynn’s Contemplations. Caylynn is a military spouse living in Germany. She’s a running nut and blogs about her progress, her experiences in a foreign country, and the Canadian Forces. She’s now a daily stop on my blog reading trips. I recommend you take a few minutes to stop by and say hello.

This week, I’m hanging out at I Will Not Eat the Darkness. I’m planning on spending a bit of time getting to know my new roomie and hope you’ll check out her blog and say hello.

Yeah, I know that renter’s don’t usually post about the places they’re hanging out. Face it, I’ve always been different and that why you love me…
