    It seems appropriate that the fist post under the new look would be dedicated to the wonderful designer who made this happen.

    I’m template challenged. I can make minor modifications to the generic templates included in WordPress and know how to install new WP templates, but designing one from scratch is well over my head. I like to blame it on my complete lack of style. It’s like art; I know what I like, I just can’t draw for beans! I’ve been reviewing a lot of work by template designers over the past few months and had my heart set on LunaStone Designs very quickly.

    LunaStone Designs is well worth every penny. Luna has worked with predominantly with Blogger templates but is now branching out into WordPress as well. I’ll admit, I was one of the annoying ones who sent her email requesting status updates on when she’d start working in WordPress.

    Luna offers premade templates and customized ones at a very reasonable price. For custom work (such as this site) she spends a lot of time with each individual client to get all of the elements of the design exactly as you want it. She’s a joy to work with and I highly recommend her to anyone who is considering a new look and feel for their blog.

    Hold on to your hats folks, there will be some changes to the look and feel of the screaming pages very soon. Until everything is ironed out, some things may look or behave a little wonky.

    Guy Fawkes Day

    When I was a little girl, my parents taught me a number of nursery rhymes. One of them included a reference to Guy Fawkes.

    Remember, remember, the 5th of November
    The Gunpowder Treason and plot;
    I know of no reason why Gunpowder Treason
    Should ever be forgot.

    I didn’t learn that there were historical connections to many nursery rhymes until high school (pop goes the weasel anyone?).

    Guy Fawkes’ and his attempt to demolish the British parliament has remained fresh in the minds of many throughout the centuries. Aside from the graphic novel V for Vendetta (and movie), he has inspired poets, musicians, authors, and poets.

    pittance of time

    As Remembrance day approaches it’s time to take a few minutes to re-evaluate our lives and take a few minutes to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy as Canadians. We owe a debt to our veterans that can never be repaid.

    At the Edmonton Red Friday’s rally on Friday, November 3rd, we were treated to a performance of the song Soldier by Shawn Hlookoff. Hearing Shawn sing reminded me of an equally beautiful and poignant song by another Canadian artist.

    Terry Kelly is an east coast musician who wrote a beautiful song, A Pittance of Time, that is well worth taking a few minutes to listen to. I think we should all keep it’s message in mind as we prepare for the upcoming weekend.

    Tim and Nastyboy have great Edmonton Red Friday rally recaps and photos. Much better than what I threw together. Head on over to their sites for their reviews.
