  • Numbers and graphs and formula… oh my!

I’ve had some problems figuring out a Stats formula based on the description in my course notes. Today I stopped in at a coworker’s office for help. G spent years teaching Stats – or so I’m told – and knew what I was babbling about. He helped me hunt down an easier formula to try and when I headed home I retried my homework. Surprise, surprise (or maybe not) the math now works and I’m finally starting to understand this chunk of the course materials.

Now if only I could find such a simple resolution to searching for appropriate articles for my other classes. I like rhw library but I think I’m spending way too much time there of late. And the more hours spent there & en route the fewer hours I have to write my papers that are due Friday.

Guess I know what I’m doing after work for the next few days…Hope everyone else is having a more exciting week.

    Desperately seeking suit

I spent over an hour searching for my black suit this morning. I was feeling really uncomfortable in the new outfit. Once I had it on it just seemed too dark and severe with the blouse I had picked out. I decided to wear the light coloured camisole style blouse that I had hanging on the hanger with my suit. I thought it might look better with the skirt/jacket combo I bought.

I searched every closet, high and low, and had a minor breakdown but to no avail. I couldn’t find my suit anywhere. I’ve discovered that Drew has six suits (not including his kilt or uniforms) so he won’t need a new one anytime soon.

Me though. I need a suit. The nice classic black one I’ve owned for a few years now. Yeah. That suit.

Our house only has four tiny closets. I can’t believe I couldn’t find my suit in any of them. I did find dress shoes that turned out to be instruments of torture in disguise. But no suit.

The last time I recall seeing it was before Drew cut an access hole in the guest room closet to get into the attic. I know he emptied the closets to make the cuts and thought he’d just put all of the clothes back into the closet when he was done.

Either I was wrong or my suit has decided to go on walk about. I’m hoping Drew reads this and might have an idea where my suit ended up… ‘Cause I really don’t want a repeat of my mad dash search this morning and don’t have the time to search every inch of the house AND get all three of my papers finished this week.

    So Drew – any hints?

    5.5 hours later…

Took a lot longer than I expected to strip the red dye from my hair. I spent the entire day at the salon getting the red out but it’s finally done. Now it seems my glasses look more severe and school marm-ish.

    I also have bangs again.

Hair was trimmed to ensure everything remains healthy so I’m another inch shorter – at least.

Guess it was a good thing I saved so much money while shopping for a suit yesterday.

Now to try and get some homework done before the weekend is completely over…

Off to the tailor’s I need to go

Spent the afternoon at the WEM with drummer R and mcpyper. Was a lot of fun shopping with other women – even if the Saturday crowds did freak me out a little. I rarely go to the WEM. Maybe 2x a year if that. So I definitely don’t know my way around the mazes (phases) at all. Good thing drummer R aquired a map and knew how to read it.

First stop was Sears. We found great shoes in the clearance area and I found a nice light green sweater set that was also on sale. I also picked up a grey jacket to pair with black or grey pants for my upcoming interviews. I’m kicking myself a little because I’d found a really nice brown suit at Sears about 5 months ago and decided against buying it at the time because I couldn’t think of enough reasons for wearing it to justify the price. Of course, now that I’m looking for a suit I can’t find anything as classic or in my size.

A little while later I picked up a really nice brown suit at Laura’s. It was on the clearance rack and I would never have looked at it twice if it wasn’t on sale. 230$ is well above my budget but at 40$ it was a great buy. It’s still cold enough to wear a lot of winter weight clothes but since all the spring stock is arriving all the winter stuff is being heavily marked down. Not so good for shop owners but very good for me.

The suit is too big to wear until I have it tailored to fit me properly. They didn’t have it in petit which means I had to buy the “normal people” size instead of my actual “short, stumpy” size. There’s at least an extra foot in length at the bottom of the pants that need to be cut off before they’ll fit me properly. The body of the jacket fits well but the arms are also a bit long and will need to be taken up. Once these alterations are made it should fit great and make a solid addition to my “interview collection”.

Now at least I don’t have to wear the same black suit to every interview. I always hesitate when it comes to pulling it out of the closet because it’s the classic cut suit I bought for my dad’s funeral. Aside from the black being a bit severe for interviews, it’s a timeless suit that just carries a bit too much emotional baggage. They say clothes can help set the mood so perhaps these two new outfits will give me an added boost of confidence.

Once past the interview phase I’m sure I can go back to my normal work outfits of dress pants and blouses. Wouldn’t life be so much easier if we could just interview in whatever the standard office dress code was? It would certainly be easier on my pocket book and closet!

Hope everyone else found whatever they were looking for today.

    not dead yet

Good news on the Dr. appt. front. I’m still fat, ugly, and aging but all my tests came back normal; my blood pressure is good and I’m not dead yet. Go me!

Stopped off at Costco on the way home and had the nose pads swapped out on my glasses.  Bye-bye cute hard plastic hearts that the frame designer probably thought were cool and hello nice soft silicone ones.  The glasses are much more comfortable to wear now.

Was considering going to look for a suit today but I think I’ll try on the green skirt set suit I have in my closet first to see if it still fits.  Weather is supposed to be warmer next week so I might manage to wear a skirt instead of pants without freezing all my girly bits.  Hate to have to spend more $$ on clothes if it can be avoided at this point.
