Joss has posted about Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog over at Whedonesque.  All I can say about it is “damn, the man can write.”

I realize that some people have been in comas or climbing mt. everest and may not be aware of the upcoming Interweeb spectacular that is Dr. Horrible.  Why you’d spend time in a coma or mountain climbing when you could be watching The Guild or prepping for Dr. Horrible is beyond me – but to each his own.

Here’s what you need to know.  Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog episodes will appear at http://www.drhorrible.com/.  What’s it about?  It’s the story of a low-rent super-villain, the hero who keeps beating him up, and the cute girl from the laundromat he’s too shy to talk to. To top it all off, it’s a Joss Whedon project that also includes the writing talents of brothers Jed and Zack and Maurissa Tancharoen. With all of this going for it – and the inclusion of Neil Patrick Harris as Dr. Horrible, Nathan Fillion as Captain Hammer, Felicia Day as Penny, the show is bound to be awesome.

To borrow a few lines from Joss’ blog post:

ONE WEEK ONLY! AN INTERNET MINISERIES EVENT!

“Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog” will be streamed, LIVE (that part’s not true), FREE (sadly, that part is) right on Drhorrible.com, in mid-July. Specifically:

ACT ONE (Wheee!) will go up Tuesday July 15th.

ACT TWO (OMG!) will go up Thursday July 17th.

ACT THREE (Denouement!) will go up Saturday July 19th.

All acts will stay up until midnight Sunday July 20th. Then they will vanish into the night, like a phantom (but not THE Phantom – that’s still playing. Like, everywhere.)

Completely out of the blue yesterday, Drew found himself promoted.  One thing about the CF – when you turn down a posting with a promotion they seem to hold it against you.  So, 6 years ago we said an emphatic no to moving to Moosejaw and spent an extra winter in Wpg before moving to Edm and Drew’s been waiting for his leaf ever since.  Finally, it’s arrived.

Too bad it didn’t come with a massive raise.  The garage is going to cost approx two grand more than the original budget.  Insulation is being put off until September.  The guys were supposed to start tearing down the old garage today but we can’t get a removal bin to the house before Wednesday.  We went with the bin option since it was about 1200$ cheaper than all of the others.  When you’re already multiple thousands over budget (and likely that’ll rise again before we’re done), you’ll take any cost savings you can find.  Overall it’s probably a good thing since Drew hasn’t put up a temporary fence for the dogs yet and we can’t have them running around the alley while the guys have part of the fence down and the garage.  Since Drew has all of next week off, he has plenty of time to find a resolution to this problem AND get the garage demolition started with the boys.

Last night we checked out a new Karaoke joint.  It’s within stumbling distance of home so no one needs to worry about finding a near non-existent cab home at the end of the night.  The crowd was pretty big and the music varied.  With dinner, the overall costs were about the same as if we’d gone to the old place.  Robin bumped into some old friends she hadn’t seen in a while.  She was always trying to get them out to the Fort and now she knows why they kept refusing 😉  I think we’ll be working this new bar into the Friday night singing tour.

Today we’re busy putting away groceries before Drew tackles removal of the other half of our hedge.  I just can’t stand the thing.  It’s been a half dead monstrosity for years.  He pulled down the other half last week (hard work digging it out) and is ready to tackle the rest with his new found non-garage demo time.

Me, I’m back doing homework.  Quel surprise!

Have a great holiday weekend everyone.

    is it over yet?

I am in desperate need of lots of beer. Just load the truck up and start pouring it into me.

I just finished working with the most difficult person on the planet – you know, the one who’s always right and your opinions don’t matter – I’m sure his attitude was exacerbated by the fact that he was under the delusion that his deadline for providing content to me is midnight tonight (that’s my deadline for turning the course over). He seems to have forgotten he’s at least two weeks late getting his work to me …

And he got very offended when I told him this morning to make a decision, tell me what he wants me to do to the course, and let me do it.  I’m already on site revision (over 125 pages) number 3 and there’s no way this will be completed on time if he can’t make up his mind!  Apparently, my saying so was very rude.   How dare I have expectations of being treated like a professional and not wanting to be forced to work 20 hours of OT in one week to pull someone else’s ass out of the fire.  I’m pretty sure treatment like this had a hell of a lot to do with why I left my last job.

Thank the gawds for temp boss.  He’s perfectly willing to just let me rant (and move the mountains out of the way) when I need to.

Despite all my complaining, I’m sure it will be a nice course when it’s finished. Too bad it’s completely inaccessible for those who are hearing or visually impaired. Oh, and it’s got some digital divide issues … and no, I haven’t figured out why I’m the only one who seems to care about these items … yep, this is exactly why I left the previous job.  I’m shouting from the rooftops about issues that we at least need to be cognizant of and being brushed off or ignored.

I know, no one wants to hear me rant about work on a Friday. Thanks be for the blues!

Appetizer: What is the weather like today where you live?

No idea.  I’ve been locked in the dungeon all day.  Well, in the warren of offices on the second floor below the library to be exact.  Rumour has it it’s supposed to be quite nice today and this weekend though.  29C.

Soup: On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how career-minded are you?

Depends on what you mean by career-minded.  I’m an absolute, one track mind, overworked, underpaid, workaholic.  There’s no denying that.  Most of my behaviour has less to do with being career-minded (or climbing the corporate ladder) than my inability to say “no” and my refusal to fail.  I’m one of those we only succeeded because of heroic measures people.  I’m supposed to stop doing it.  Switching from corporate to academia was supposed to help my work/life balance.  Uh huh.

Salad: What type of window coverings do you have in your home? Blinds, curtains, shutters, etc.?

Depends (there’s that word again) on the room.  Blackout blind in the bedroom, venetian blinds in the kitchen, wooden shutters (inside) in the basement, curtains in the living room and spare bedroom, etc.

Main Course: Name something that instantly cheers you up.

    Friday Night Blues and Beer

Dessert: How many times do you hit the snooze button on a typical morning?

Me?  Probably 2x.  The hubby is about the same most days.  We have dual alarms but since he typically gets up before me, I “benefit” from 4 snoozes instead of just 2.

We made the local newspaper this morning.  We knew about the knife but I had expected him to have done a lot more than just this for the number of cops who arrived in pursuit. And no mention of Drew’s tackling the guy.

Upperdate: The link to article was removed upon sober second thought.  Too much personal info on our families is available based on address listed for the arrest.
