Apparently, I’ve been missed over the past few weeks while I’ve been avoiding blogging. I’d like to say I was off on some wild adventures, but actually I’ve just been puttering around the house, building a few websites, taking online classes, and transferring my blog and domains to a new host. Now that that’s finally done, I’m back to blogging. So, you can stop with the evil emails, I’m back 😉

    now what will we do?

Last night was Betty’s – our awesome Karaoke hostess’ – retirement party. She’s finished school and left the world of night-time karaoke for a day job. It’s awesome to see her move forward with her life, but it also leaves a small hole in our Friday nights.

Of course, we bestowed lots of gifts upon her – bouquet of panties, blow up microphones signed by the gang, blow up walker with horn – and recorded the bulk of the night on video to celebrate the end of a 14 year run. We’re nothing if not creative in our old age. This morning her equipment was packed up and moved home with the intent to sell it all off and hopefully start someone else on the path of entertaining drunk masses.

Next week is her first weekend off in years and she’s as unsure about what she’ll be doing next week as the rest of us. It seems so odd. Many of our motley group of Friday night friends met at one of the many locations she’s held her shows over the past few years. Our horizons have expanded along with our cell phone contact lists. Now, we’ll have to find new ways to keep in touch on a regular basis.

Backyard BBQ at our house it is!

    M.I.A

This weekend it was noted that I hadn’t been blogging for a few days. It’s all Darcey’s fault.

He invited me to join Facebook (miles superior to myspace) on Thursday and I’ve been connecting with old friends from pre-school – it’s not as bad as it sounds, we lived in a smallish city and followed each other through til high school in many cases – my in-laws, ex-highland dancers, and the guy who introduced me to my hubby. I’m spending way too much time playing “remember when” and not enough time working on the Web sites’ I’ve promised to friends/clients or blogging. I’m hoping the novelty will wear off in a day or two and I’ll be back to devoting my on-line time to blogging like a good girl.

Today was a holiday so I spent the bulk of it playing golf. I was really lucky that the guys we were playing with were supremely patient – since I’d never held a golf club before, let alone played the game. I did eventually improve, but those 23 shots on a par 5 first hole nearly had me running back to the club house for beer.

    Thursday Thirteen – Shoes

Welcome to the 27th edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen.

Yesterday I mentioned that my new job will mean that I’m likely not going to be able to afford the new pair of shoes I want anytime soon. Nicholas commented that overpriced designer shoes are useless. I beg to differ.

    button_thursdaythirteen.jpg
Thirteen reasons I need more shoes.

    1. My hubby has more pairs of shoes than I do. Honest. We counted.
    2. I have very small but oddly wide feet. It’s hard to find shoes to fit me outside of the children’s department. Most children’s shoes are very poorly made with cheap materials. Sure, I may only spend 20$ a pair, but they hurt my feet and fall apart within months, resulting in my needing to buy MORE shoes.
    3. A well made pair of shoes can last a very long time. I once had a pair of Doc’s that I wore for 5 years straight – until I wore out the soles. Anyone who has previously owned Doc’s can tell you this is no easy feat.
    4. Price tag on the Doc’s was over $250. The shoe stores that carried them wouldn’t order children’s sizes because no one in the right mind would spend that much $$ on a pair of shoes for a kid who would outgrow them in a few months. I had to have them special ordered in and waited over a month for them to arrive.
    5. I once spent 3 weeks searching for a pair of simple black dress shoes with a small heel (less than 1 in) appropriate for daily wear at work.
    6. I think it’s far better to spend a lot of money on a good pair of shoes that will last a number of years than on a cheap pair that will fall apart in a matter of weeks. Over a given period of time, it’ll actually cost less $$.
    7. Rockports and Naturalizer shoes cost approximately 75% of the price tag on a the Prada shoes I want. If I’m going to spend that much money anyway, I might as well save my pennies and go all the way.
    8. I need something comfortable on my feet when I walk up 9 flights of stairs in the parking garage at the end of the work day.
    9. It’s terribly embarrassing to only own one pair of black shoes (Doc’s) that you can wear to work. Have you ever tried looking business-like in a skirt and Doc’s?
    10. They fit properly.
    11. They’re appropriate for work or play.
    12. They’re comfortable.
    13. If I bought them, I’d have shoes that match my purse and wallet 😉
