Apparently I wrote too soon when I said the treadmill was behaving. It decided to stop at the 1 mile mark exactly tonight. Before jumping on the treadmill I shoveled some of the snow and ice from the walkway today. It’s amazing what il do in the name of procrastination 🙂

I’ve got two chapters to try and chew through this evening and I’d really like to get another mile on the treadmill before bedtime.

I continue to be a rotten wife. I have yet to sit down and write Drew a letter this week. I have a small box ready to mail out but need to get off my butt and write a letter to include with the package.

Time to put down the iPhone, stop blogging, and start reading. Have a good night all.

UPPERDATE: 60 pages of the original million plus one left to read. I’ve just read the same page 4x with nothing registering. Setting it aside for the evening. Should be able to finish up tomorrow evening. 0.6 miles on second trip on treadmill. Lazy and brain dead tonight…

    Guiltless tv viewing accomplished

January 27th, 2009 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

Watched tv from the treadmill tonight. For the first time in weeks it didn’t automatically turn itself off after 20 minutes. Here’s hoping whatever was up with it before is now fixed!

I has a dream that the LOLcat fairy will bless me with a reduction in pant size x2 by the time Drew comes home. It’s all about losing inches or so I’m going to keep telling myself. Thus the tv viewing from the treadmill this evening. And hopefully every day between now and “Friday”.

Got some reading done for class. Had to throw that in for mommy R and Dr. D. Apparently I’m so busy writing about my fine procrastination skills that my co-workers are beginning to wonder if I ever manage to do my homework. Granted if they followed me on Twitter they’d know I babble about my reading assignments as I’m doing them all the time. *thupppttt*

More reading on deck for the next hour. To do list seems to be getting longer each evening.

    Hi-lite of my day

January 16th, 2009 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

I slept this afternoon. I hadn’t intended to. The plan was to come home from grocery shopping and do readings for class. These past few semesters all I had to do to nod off was crack open my Enviro Chem textbooks. They bored me to tears most days.

No so with this semester’s textbooks. Even the Stats one seems interesting. I grabbed my pens and hi-liter and was just about to settle a textbook in my lap when *poof* I feel asleep. Textbooks never moved from their stacked pile at my elbow. But I slept. Uninterrupted. For four hours! It was wonderful. I know I desperately needed it.

Of course the downside to sleeping through my planned study time is that I have more to do tomorrow. And the forecast says it’ll be between +6C and +10C. While everyone else is playing in the sun I’ll be in my basement reading papers, textbooks, and writing out my responses to my assignments. Unfortunately I can’t procrastinate this weekend or I’ll fall massively behind in my three (yes 3! – I still don’t know what I was thinking when I registered this past semester) classes.

    Can’t have everything.

While I’m on the topic of school and Enviro Chem, my final grades for the course are finally in. Considering that I didn’t recognize ANYTHING on my final exam I’m thrilled with my final marks. I was dreading having to repeat the class since if I didn’t pass the exam I wouldn’t pass the course. Silly university rules! No option to fall back on a cumulative course grade to pass if the final exam isn’t passed…

    Drumroll please.

I’ve added another A- (3.7) to my transcript. As far as percentages go, it’s the lowest mark I’ve obtained since I enrolled at RMC but thank goodness for grade ranges. No F (or B) on this transcript yet. It’s a huge load off my mind knowing that I don’t have to retake the class. On to bigger and better things now.

Before the much appreciated crash I did manage to make the trip to the Post Office and send Drew another package. Compared to one’s I’ve sent in the past this one was pretty sparse. Mostly foodstuffs. I didn’t remember to sit down and write a letter or record any home videos this week so I’ll need to try and do a bit of that tomorrow too. I’ll consider it my break from studying in the afternoon.

Next week I’m heading to STOMP! with Loxley and Boo. I’m really looking forward to it since I haven’t seen Boo in months. The following weekend is the Celt-X Rabbie Burns night and I should be picking up my ticket for that tonight. I’m bringing the camcorder and many tapes with me. Lots of former band mates and friends will be there and they all want to record a message for Drew. Shades of our social in Winnipeg. Drew was in Bosnia for that and we recorded messages for him. Of course, we have no VCR now so watching those again won’t happen anytime soon.

Must remember to charge camcorder batteries.

If you’re local (Edm area) and looking for something to do on Jan 31 consider picking up a ticket to the Celt-X event. Proceeds go to developing a school for pipers and drummers. A traditional Burns supper is in the offing and entertainment is provided by the boys of St. James Gate out of Red Deer. They’re an amazingly high spirited and talented celtic band and the official band of the Edmonton Girls Pipe Band. I need another weekend

January 11th, 2009 she Posted in Learning & Education, Random Burbling 2 Comments »

    To recover from this one!

Yesterday evening I spent a huge chunk of time working through the first units of my Experimental Design and Statistics in the Social Sciences (Stats) courses. Today I need to finish those off and finish reading the articles for my Military Psychology class.  What fun names Psychology courses have.  Yeah.  I’m reaching for a bright side.  Cut me some slack.

The course instructor for my Stats class appears to be pretty responsive.  When my course pack arrived, there was a notice inside indicating that I’d need a calculator.  No other mention of it anywhere in the course calendar or manuals. I sent him an email last night asking if there was a particular model of calculator or specific functions I need to have access to in order to complete the course activities and he had a response for me this afternoon.  Considering it’s a Sunday that’s not a bad turn around time at all.  I wasn’t even expecting him to see the email I’d sent until tomorrow.

Turns out I don’t need anything fancy in the calculator department.  I can tell you that that’s a huge relief considering some of the graphing calculators on the market can cost hundreds of dollars and seem far outside of the budget range at the moment.  Getting the news that a basic 10$ calculator with square  rooting functions will do was welcome. A quick search of my office turned up a little solar powered Casio calculator that meets the requirements. Since I don’t recall ever seeing this before I’m going to assume it’s Drew’s.  It seems to me that he had one for his Management courses when he completed his diploma program a few years back. Which reminds me, I wonder what he did with his diploma?

This morning I had full intentions to do chores around the house and then go grocery shopping before I dove back into my school work.  Then I looked outside the window.  A mini-blizzard was taking place so I decided that I didn’t need milk all that badly and had enough food in the fridge and freezer to survive a few more days before heading out for groceries.  I certainly won’t starve in the meantime.  I’ll just need to use canned or frozen veggies instead of fresh ones if I decide to cook again. If I don’t want to cook there’s lots of types of soup to choose from.

I did get the chores on my list completed.  The cupboards were cleaned out and re-organized. Dishes and laundry are done. Garbage is gathered and out (so the dogs don’t get into it).  I’m actually pretty impressed with what I managed to accomplish considering how icky I feel.

Next up – soaking in the jacuzzi. I figured I’ve earned it and my hot water tank is certainly large enough to handle it so soon after dishes.

Then I’ll get back to studying.  That should take me through until the evening when I hope, thanks to some newly acquired melatonin, I’ll get a full night’s sleep.
