52 books in 52 weeks

Hot on the heels of Zoe’s Read-a-ton contest (I came in 3rd) I’ve decided to attempt to read 52 books in 52 weeks. I’ve seen a lot of references to this concept and am not 100% certain who to attribute the original idea to – but there’s at least one book club that’s got their own blog dedicated to reaching this goal. Check out 52 books, 52 weeks for more information.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that I’ve already got a few books under my belt this year.

  1. A Dirty Job – Christopher Moore
  2. The Last Juror – John Grisham
  3. Goal Analysis – Robert F Mager

It’s the beginning of the 3rd week in January and I’ve already read 3 books (that I’m willing to admit too – my embarrassing romance novel reading has yet to be included in the list). Looks pretty promising if I can keep up this pace. I’ve updated my Shelfari reading list to include the books I’ve read this year and help me keep track of my goal of reading 52 books in 52 weeks.

  1. Thanks so much for visiting me. I am always thrilled to see another exercise for comments blogger. It’s worked wonders for me, actually. Good luck on your book reading goals. I am a very very slow reader, so if I were to take up this goal, I would have to resort to a first grade reader to be successful. Oh well, maybe I could do one chapter per week. Pathetic, huh?

  2. Wow! I’d love to read 52 books in 52 weeks. I love reading! But sometimes life gets in the way. Good luck!

Here’s another minute for you too πŸ™‚

  3. I’m at 5 books so far this year! Definitely count those Cheesy romance novels!!! They add SPICE! πŸ™‚ We can’t be all “literary” all the time πŸ˜€

  4. Here’s a comment for you. Thanks for dropping by! I’ve given up on minutes to walk and ddr. I’ve decided to multiply the number of comments by 10 and do that number of situps. I’m still walking, but this seems easier to keep track of.
Enjoy your books! I’m in the middle of 2 and I have 3 more piled on my night stand!
    LOL!!

  5. LadyBug – multipling comments by 10 seems like a good idea – but in practice might be the death of me. I know I’d never manage that many sit-ups in a week let alone a day at this point. Perhaps I’ll be able to multiply comments by 10 and do lots more walking as my fitness levels improve. You’ve definitely given me something to think about.

As for the number of books piled at my nightstand… I’ve got 14 there and am expecting to receive another 10 in the mail sometime this week.

Rashenbo – Cheesy romance novels are fun, but it’s hard to admit to reading them in the same space as Robert Mager, Paulo Friere, and Christopher Moore. They’re more fun as a dirty little secret.

  6. Nice work! I need to get back into reading more for pleasure. I have to read so much stuff now for school and work that during my off times, reading seems like the last thing I should do. But I miss it too much. Also, I enjoyed the last Juror–I hope you liked it.

  7. Good luck, she. I had hoped to read 26 books a year for my book review blog and then life intervened. Anyway, thanks for visiting my blog. You curb appeal is way cool! Who did your cool header. Don’t know if you have any desire to read a British bestseller called The Reading Group by Elizabeth Noble, but I’m going to post an invitation to read and discuss in February on gem-vita. Maybe you can prop a book on your treadmill.

  8. I’m actually feeling pretty confident that I can read well over 52 books in 2007. The main issue will be whether or not I can read a book a week – rather than reading three books one week and no books the next (I can’t imagine that happening, as I read each night before bedtime). Of course, I’d never be able to do it if I were trying to review books as well as read them.

I’ll have to look up Elizabeth Nobel and keep an eye on your blog Gale to see if/when you begin your read and discussion project. I do read some British writers, so if I can find it, I may well join in. I’ll be in India for most of Feb, but they do have some British novels in their larger bookstores.

  9. Hey, babe! Another comment… more exercise for ya!

52 books in 52 weeks isn’t challenging enough for me, but I just posted a new suggestion for you at my blog… you can even win my copy for yourself (and how is it that you are expecting ten books this week? I’m jealous! I’ve only have four arrive all month so far, not counting the one I’m reviewing for Front Street Reviews. But then again, I’m trying to slow the influx a bit; I want to see out my windows again!!!)

  10. Susan – My hubby, sister and co-workers all bought me gift certificates to bookstores for Christmas, so of course I had to run online and spend them all right away πŸ˜‰

No freebies, but lots of books that were on sale.

Which reminds me, I have some bookcrossing books to register (found and released) this week.

  11. wow! one book every week!

  12. How many books do you think you can read on the plane? I hear you can put a few under your belt on a 24 hour trip. I found that sleep isn’t realy much of an option, especially with a bored 12 year old at your side, but if I was alone I could have done one or two.
