Well, I’ve finally gone and done it. I accepted a short term contract position with a local college this evening. As of Wednesday, I’m back in the ranks of the employed. Compared to my previous salary, It’s a pay cut but the benefits are good. We’ll find a way to make it all work out in the end.

  1. Congrats, babe!

Don’t worry about the money yet. This might just be a stepping stone to something bigger and better.

  2. I’ll admit it – I only accepted the job because it’s a short term contract AND at a very respected school out here. If nothing else, it’ll keep me from having any nasty gaps to explain on my resume.

  3. awesome news babe

  4. I feel I should follow the crowd and call you ‘babe’ too, but since I’m never one to follow the crowd I’ll just say a huge congratulations on the new job…ummm….sweety? K that’s still a bit weird for me. Just big congratulations and hope the job is what you’re looking for :o)

  5. Good luck in the new job

  6. What could the out-of-work workaholic been doing with herself all this time?

  7. What could the out-of-work workaholic have been doing all this time?

  8. Congrats on the new job!
I just wanted to stop by and let you know I posted the answers to last Thursdays Yes or No Q’s. It’s up at Any Apples Any Apples

  9. Congrats!! (Taking a break from laying down and resting my back. I get 20 minutes out of every three hours to sit up and geek, so I’m making the most of it.)

You may find that you get more job offers when you’re employed – even on a short-term contract – than when you’re unemployed. Of course, that may not hold true for the Canadian education industry…but, yep, it’s an opportunity to network, it’s a respected place (go you!!!), it’s income, and it’s a chance to see how another group of people works.

Even at my worst gigs, I learn plenty of things. Sadly, many of them are ways -=not=- to do things. Man, I could write a book by now. (Or a T13. Heh. This is getting to be a habit.)

  10. Congratulations and good luck with your new job.
