productive member of society.

I know. I’ve been reading the comments. Everyone and their dog wants to know how I’m feeling about the new job now that I’ve got day 1 under my belt. Let me tell ya, ’twas a long day. Mostly due to the “up all night, sleep 1/2 the day” rut I’d gotten myself into while on my self-imposed vacation.

As for my new co-workers and the job itself – so far so good. The job description received from the HR rep. doesn’t really seem to match what my new boss has planned for me (thank goodness) and I got to dig into mid-term course evaluations after attending meetings in the morning. Got an OJT course in during the afternoon and am slated for some additional OJT’s over the next few weeks.

The coolest thing about the new job? For the first time in a while, I’m not embarrassed to tell people where I work. There’s a lot to be said about working for an employer that has a good reputation in the area you’re living. I didn’t realize how important that was to me prior to today.

Once I get over the shock of a nearly 25% pay cut and come to terms with the fact that those cute little Prada shoes I want will likely never make it into my closet or on my feet, I think I may just have found a place where I can be happy.

  1. Pay cuts do suck.

But sometimes…sometimes, other things may make up for that. At least partially. (For one thing, I’m technically able to put in six hours a day while working from home and taking care of my back…even if those eight hours are spread out in little chunks of time.

Here’s to the eventual purchasing of the Prada 😀

  2. Glad to hear things are looking good for you. I’m not terribly surprised; you deserve it!

Hang in there about the pay cut. I swear, better things are just around the corner.

  3. Congrats on the new job and I hope it all works out like a dream.
Now – where’s your TT, or are you too busy now that your re-gainfully employed? 🙂

  4. You go girl!! There is something to be said about being able to hold your head high and look people in the eye when you mention your employer. And you can go places, literally and figuratively. A friend of mine who works there (and who is a piper in the band) went to San Diego for a Microsoft convention a couple of months ago. She had a great time, and got to spend somebody elses money on new programs for the institute.

  5. Glad you seem to like it, in spite of the pay cut. And don’t worry about the shoes. Overpriced desginer shoes are probably the biggest waste of money on the planet. You can find far better things to do with your money, i’m sure.

  6. Pay cut, pride increase!

  7. Hire me??

  8. im happy for you sheelagh….i miss you.

  9. I agree with Nicholas you can find better things to do with your money. Sure it would be nice to have cute prada shoes but there are so many more out there that will make you just as happy. I recently got a pair of Easy Spirit Rikki’s and they make me a very happy girl!!
