    Day 9 Read-a-ton: Update

I didn’t get a lot of reading done this past weekend for Zoe’s Read-a-ton contest. We had our diversity dinner at work on Friday and by the time I arrived home I was too bagged to try and read. Saturday was also a complete write off due to a planned Christmas party. Sunday was “mad fluff and stuff” day as we cleaned the house in preparation for Mom’s arrival on Tuesday night.

I did manage to start Grisham’s A Time to Kill but I’ve only made it through about 150 pages so far. The plan tonight is to sit back with the book and get at least another 200 pages finished before closing my eyes and heading off to sleep. I’ll be starting as soon as I post this since I have to be up at 5am to head to work *shudder*.

    Wish me luck!

Curiousity got the cat stuck in a plastic bag

A few minutes ago, while I was happily reading the news online, the hubby shouted down the stairs advising that “you better get up here quick”. He should have known better. On any Sunday that follows a night of copious amounts of red wine being drunk, I don’t move anywhere quickly.

Somehow while she was playing with a plastic grocery bag in the kitchen, Thanatos managed to get her body, head and front leg stuck through the handles. Her back legs were stuck in the main section of the bag. After a bit of wiggling about, she discovered herself stuck and immediately started wailing for help.

The hubby came rushing down the stairs with a squealing cat in his arms. Dumping her unceremoniously in my lap, he says “you deal with it”. It was a smart move on his part. Laying her head on my arm, she immediately stopped howling and squirming. Purring loudly, she patiently waited for me to extract her from the bag. A few ripped handles later and she was wiggling her way out of the bag.

Rescued, she stayed on my lap long enough to get a belly rub and some scratches behind the ears. Then, she toddled off back to rule her domain; the kitchen.

Famous last words: “Damn! We should have taken a picture of that before rescuing her.”

    Friday’s Feast: 122

Scribbled down on December 16th, 2006 by she

My blog friend, Caylynn, has been doing this for a while so I thought I would try this out this week and see how it goes…

Feast One Hundred & Twenty Two
Appetizer: What was your very first job with a paycheck?

    • Baby-sitting doesn’t count right? I was a booking clerk at a photo studio for the summer (between grades 10 and 11). I was allowed to work during the summer, but not during the school year.

Soup: Did you ever lose something really important to you?

    • Prior to this year, I would have said that what was lost (stolen) that meant the most to me was my grandmother’s cross. My grandmother (on Dad’s side of the family) gave a cross and necklace to my mom after my parents married. My mom gave it to me when I graduated high school. About 6 years ago our house was broken into and the cross was stolen. I was so upset to lose a family piece, but my parents seemed happy that the hubby and I weren’t home at the time of the break-in. There was a bad spree of violent home invasions happening in the city at the time. However, it seems so trivial to mourn a piece of jewelry since losing my dad to cancer 2 months ago. Yeah, I’ve lost something really important to me.

Salad: What is the best Christmas present you ever received?

    • My hubby bought me a vacuum cleaner for our first Christmas together. We lived in an apartment with lots of crappy old ’70’s carpet and I desperately wanted one. Despite lots of people telling him buying me a vacuum would be the death knell of our relationship, he ignored them and bought me the present I still think shows that he really understands me.

Main Course: Tell about a favorite “hang out” place for you and your friends when you were in high school.

    • I was the nerdy loser with few friends. I didn’t have a hang out. I went home and did my homework.

Dessert: Name something that always brings a smile to your face.

    • My cat, Thanatos.
