  • I’m in love

October 1st, 2010 she Posted in Random Burbling 1 Comment »

After the crappy week I finally have something to be excited about. I used my phone credit to upgrade to an iPhone 4 (now that the store finally had some in stock). Nothing better than free new tech. Also awesome? Moving my data over was a breeze.

Even more amazing is the fact that hubs is actually interested in perhaps using my old iPhone when he returns. Yes. You read that right. The guy who loathes phones and prefers to ignore them may actually want a fun smart phone.

    Will wonders never cease?

Curse of the clutz strikes again

September 28th, 2010 she Posted in Random Burbling 1 Comment »

Once upon a time a former boss (and wonderful person) once told me that she was glad she always knew my hubby was out of town when I frequently had “accidents”. Otherwise she’d be convinced I was a battered wife. After all, who really does fall down stairs and hit a door nob with their face? Or walk into walls? Or telephone poles? Of course, it probably also helped that she watched me do that (walk into a pole) once.

What can I say? I’m a clutz and occasionally get distracted while walking. I should pay more attention to what I’m doing. One foot in front of the other.

Yesterday I fell down the stairs. *Whump bump* on my ass all the way down. I can’t blame the dogs for tripping me as they were all safely outside. I do blame the vacuum cleaner. I stepped over the cord. Well, on the cord. And boom! Down I went. Bouncing step to step on my ass until I was at the bottom of the stairs and unceremoniously dumped in the basement.

Today I landed on my face. I was making tea and turned to head to the bathroom. Next thing I know my shirt is covered in water from the dogs’ bowl and I’m sporting a giant goose egg on my forehead and a bruised cheek.

Just what I needed. More bruises to match the ones on my ass.

I’d like to take this time to note that the dogs didn’t seem to care that I’ve fallen down (twice). So much for being loving, caring, companions concerned with their owner’s well-being. As long as they get their dinner on time, they care not at all.

The clutz curse appears to be back with a vengeance. Here’s hoping it runs it’s couse sooner rather than later…

    Sept Update

September 26th, 2010 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

Absolute disaster happened at the house on Thursday. Something much worse than the dental appointment I’d had scheduled earlier in the day.

I came home to a sewer backup in our basement shower stall. Ugh!

After the plumber augered out the tree roots in the lines, we’re back to normal. If you can consider a basement that reeks of bleach normal.

I tore up the carpet in the hall closet and have been busy washing Drew’s kit that was stored there. L is going to help me tear up the hall carpet (it’s superglued down it seems) and then we’re replacing it with laminate flooring.

Drew and I will tackle reflooring the office when he gets home in Nov. It’s too big of a job to do at the moment. I can’t tear apart the office for days with school in mid stream. So, super bleach stink is the new “in” smell chez moi.

    Ugh!

Post clean-up required a good stress relief. I spent yesterday evening score keeping at the E-ville roller derby game and had a blast. I’m not likely to ever be able to play due to my millions of injuries, but I can volunteer and participate as an NSO. Hope to be able to do so all season.

Now, back to cleaning & homework. I’m probably overcleaning at this point but I find I can’t help myself at the moment.

Tomorrow I take the truck in to get nee shocks & struts. It doesn’t rain but it pours when hubs away.

    So, how was your week?

    Must.Go.Shopping

September 22nd, 2010 she Posted in new leaf, Random Burbling 5 Comments »

I’d like to take a moment to feed my delusions and say “I’m not a big clothes horse“. Oh, I know. When I was larger my closet was stuffed full of clothes and I could go weeks without wearing the same outfit twice. But I like to pretend that I was never that bad.

Growing up, I remember my mum had closets (yes – multiple closets) filled with clothes for every occasion in every fabric or colour imaginable. Using her as my model for “clothes horse”, I can happily state I have never been that bad. Granted, that’s mostly because I never had the room in our houses to maintain closets like that. Of course, last time I was home, I think mum had culled her closets significantly. I know the extra large wardrobe/closet that used to be in the bedroom is no longer there and the walk in closet seems empty in comparison to childhood memory.

Since losing weight & working on increasing my fitness levels, I’ve donated dozens of bags of clothes to charity shops. Many of the items donated were purchased at second hand stores over the course of the past few months. I’m Scottish. I’m cheap. Oh, and I refused to pay full price (or even sale price) for clothes I’d only fit into for a month. You see, I’ve dropped 7 sizes in the last 9 months and I certainly couldn’t keep any of the clothes in my tiny little mouse house. There’s just no room to store them. [Donation side note : Except for the bag of clothes I’m keeping for my sister to pick through when she visits in a few months.]

A few weeks back I picked up some new (yes! new!) dress pants for fall. A whopping 5 pairs. That’s it. That’s my entire dress pant wardrobe for work. Except… I’ve shrunk out of 2 of the pairs already. So I’m down to three pairs of pants I can wear to work. Add to that 3 blouses. And a tonne of workout clothes. A half closet full to be precise.

Which leads me to the conclusion It’s getting cold outside and I must go shopping. I loathe shopping for clothes but since I have no

    • fall jacket
    • winter coat
    • sweaters
    • turtlenecks
    • long johns/tights

Or I could avoid the stores and just wear the hubby’s clothes. That’s not such a bad idea after all. The man has lined jeans and very warm winter coats. I’m sure he won’t notice I’ve stolen his warm clothing when he’s home in November and February for tour breaks…

So I guess I better go shopping soon. Not a good idea to be without warm clothes as a prairie winter approaches.

    orange roses

August 20th, 2010 she Posted in Random Burbling No Comments »

I uploaded pics of the roses to Facebook and the general consensus is that hubs has good taste. I also sent him a picture of them as I wasn’t sure if he’d be able to get to my blog anytime soon. He, too, was confused by the choice of orange rose. He thought they’d be white.

So he googled the meaning of orange roses and discovered that

With their blazing energy, orange roses are the embodiment of desire and enthusiasm. Orange roses often symbolize passion and excitement and are an expression of fervent romance. A bouquet of orange roses will send a meaningful message. – Proflowers.com

Which makes them sound like they’re a great choice in colour under the circumstances. Except that we both had to google it to find the hidden meaning. So, kinda a colour choice FAIL! in my book.
