  • vote for DMB – round two

November 30th, 2008 she Posted in Popularity Contests 5 Comments »

    *gasp*

I can’t believe it’s true, but The Broom didn’t make it to round two of the best podcaster/vlogger in the Canadian Blog Awards . How can this be? Are Blues and beer not the  source of all things well and good in the world?

Equally disheartening is that the screaming pages didn’t make round two in the Personal Blog category. On the bright side, neither did Matt Good’s blog so my work here is done.

You’ll note that this post is cleverly titled “vote for us – round two”. DMB made it into round two in the Best Group Blog category. So go vote.  Now.  I’m waiting. Don’t worry, we’ll still be here when you get back.

Abject Begging: vote for your favourite angst filled student

The Canadian Blog Awards are back and I’m up for Best Personal Blog. Keep me motivated; go and vote. I’ll have this post as the top post on my blog until voting is over. Cause I’m all egotistical like that…

Round 1 goes from today to November 29th. Polls close during the middle of November 29th.

You get one vote in the week, per category.

While you’re voting for me, don’t forget to vote for Darcey and the rest of the crew over at Dust My Broom.  They’re up for Best Podcast and Best Group Blog.

Memory… all alone in the moonlight

September 2nd, 2008 she Posted in Popularity Contests 1 Comment »

I’d like to say I shamelessly stole then when I was visiting Joy over at a Spot of T. However, it’s really hard to steal something when you’re being encouraged to play the “game”.

Before we get on to the good stuff I must remember to buy tickets to Cats and STOMP soon. Otherwise I’ll be stuck up in the second balcony behind someone with a beehive hairdo.  Perhaps my loverly husband who is still working his way through my honey-do list would like to attend?  I know he’d love STOMP but I just can’t picture him engrossed in Cats.  Then again, he did love the Lion King

Who am I kidding?  Before I even look at tickets for Cats and STOMP I need to check out the schedule for the 2008/2009 Opera season and run the numbers to see if we can afford both season tickets and for me to go to school…  I miss having season tickets to the Opera.  The winter seems duller and harsher without fantastic musical nights out to experience.

Where was I?  Oh yes.  Playing Joy’s game. The rules are simple:

    1. As a comment on this post, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you know me a little or a lot, anything you remember. And if we’ve never met in real life, leave me a comment of your favorite post I wrote and why it was your favorite.
    2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It’s actually quite funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I’ll assume you’re playing the game and I’ll come to your blog and leave one about you.

Thursday Thirteen: Things I’d rather be doing

July 10th, 2008 she Posted in Popularity Contests 5 Comments »

Welcome to the 35th edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen.

I work at a college and many of my co-workers are off for the summer.  Others are splitting their vacation time between summer and winter months.  Unfortunately for me, summer is my busy season at work and it doesn’t tend to calm down around here for me until later in the fall and mid-spring.  So, while all my co-workers are busy bouncing around Mexico, California and Europe or lounging around at the lake or cottage, I’m stuck in my office.  But there’s other things I’d rather be doing…

Thirteen things I’d rather be doing today…

    1. Camping in the mountains.  I miss the days – before the monstrous gas prices and crazy summer work schedule – when we would load up the RV and drive off to the Rocky mountains for a week or two.
    2. Fishing at Pelican Pouch in Lake-of-the-Woods.  I always catch the most fish there.
    3. Backpacking through Europe.
    4. Re-organizing my office/library.  I need to comb through the area to make sure I have room for next semester’s books.
    5. Finish the front yard work.  The ugly ass half-dead hedge has been torn out but we still need to plant new (smaller and nicer, juniper most likely) bushes and install the decorative rock.  After that, we need to tackle the severely diseased tree in the yard.  I think the previous home owners had the same shade of green thumb that I have – black!
    6. I can’t believe I’m writing this, but I’d rather be reading my course textbooks and working on my papers (2) that are due soon.
    7. Sit on my deck in the backyard with some lemonade, my textbooks and my laptop.
    8. Grocery shopping.  The cupboards are pretty depleted and I would like to eat this week.
    9. Determine what I’m getting Loxley for her birthday next week.  She wants something home-made (like Christmas) but I’m not sure I can top that.  Well, that and I don’t have that many free hours to spend working on her present – see #’s 6 and 7 re: pending papers and upcoming due dates.
    10. Groom the dogs and cats.
    11. Go for a walk through the river valley.
    12. SLEEP!  I’m exhausted today. Not really sure why.
    13. Cooking.  I used to cook frequently but got thrown out of the kitchen by a cooking fiend (the hubby) and was never really interested in going back.  Every once in a while I get into a mood to cook.  If I wait long enough, it usually passes *grin*.  Today, I wouldn’t mind spending a day in the kitchen cooking.  Mostly, I just want to make food to freeze so that we have a tonne of ready made meals available for the times when I don’t want to cook.

    Thursday Thirteen: To Do List

July 3rd, 2008 she Posted in Popularity Contests 3 Comments »

Wow!  It’s been a long time since I’ve completed a T13.  In fact, about a year has passed since I posted my last one.  So much has changed in such a short time.  Then again, much has also remained the same.  Continuing on from before the year-long break makes this the 34th edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen.

Thirteen things I need to do today…

    1. Zee hubby is off work this week so I need to wake him up and convince him to drive me to work so he can fix the tail pipe on my truck, get the dogs’ nails trimmed, replace the weather stripping around the doors, etc.  I’d feel guilty except I know he’ll drive strait home from dropping me off and go right back to sleep.  We’ll see how much of his Honey Do list is completed by the time he picks me up at 4…
    2. Stock my work fridge with healthy snacks – individual servings of cheese, yogurt, fruit, etc. so when I have a giant mid-morning snack attack I’m at least eating something good for me.
    3. Call the dentist and book an appointment.  Apparently they called to schedule one last week.  It’s the first time I’ve missed one of their messages but that’s likely due to the fact that they left the message on my cell phone rather than my home phone.  My cell hasn’t been on much lately.
    4. Meet with the new project manager to discuss project status and install the database front end on her system.  She’s going to give me a new list of fields she needs tracked so I’ve a feeling I’ll be redesigning the database again soon.
    5. Replicate course sites.  Add users and await feedback and change requests.  Revise AA course code.
    6. Register for final exams for my Enviro Chem and Psych classes.
    7. Register for the courses I’ll be taking next semester.  I’m not amused that the bookstore isn’t listing a single fall course in their textbook search yet.  With my luck I’ll be registering myself for another multi-book 300+ $$ extravaganza.
    8. Email W and let her know I have gotten the book “15 days” back from R and can lend it to her. Email also needs to include arrangements for chanter practice.  Drew and I have been way too lax of late and need to get back into the swing of things.  Besides, I miss seeing P & W.
    9. Confirm date and location of dinner with Boo next week.
    10. Confirm which of the July 19th BBQ’s we’ll be attending.  We’ve been invited to a dinner and 2 BBQ’s – and it’s Drew’s birthday – and apparently staying home isn’t an option.  Drew picked which one we’ll be attending. I’m just the messenger.
    11. Chase after my source of frustration admin to ensure she’s actually doing the work she’s been assigned.
    12. Attempt to define my job so I can go into my review meeting with an accurate picture of what I actually do.
    13. Invite my neighbours to a Candle Light party a friend is holding on Sunday.
