Thursday Thirteen – Baby Steps to the Elevator

Welcome to the 12th edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen.

For Christmas, the exercise fairy brought pedometers to myself and a fellow co-worker. We’ve set up a daily challenge to see who walks around the center most on a day-to-day basis. I’m winning most days – mainly because Boo keeps forgetting her pedometer at home. Being a curious sort, I like to calculate how many steps it takes to get me where I need to go around the office. Multiply these numbers by a bazillion trips a day, and you get an idea of how much running around I can do in an average 8 hour shift.

This week’s Thursday Thirteen calculates how many steps it takes to get around the office assuming I start the (one way) journey at my cubicle.

Thirteen Things about SHE. Step Counting.

  1. 9 steps to the fax machine
  2. 69 steps to the lunchroom
  3. 86 steps to the ice and water machine
  4. 91 steps to the microwave
  5. 98 steps to the bathroom
  6. 101 steps to the vending machine to buy apple juice
  7. 142 steps to the mailroom
  8. 152 steps to the main floor printer
  9. 164 steps to the back door into HR
  10. 183 steps to the main meeting room
  11. 212 steps to the coffee shop
  12. 218 steps to the security desk
  13. 228 steps to the main door

  1. I’ve got the type of personality that I would LOVE that pedometer. I like to know things like how many steps it takes to get to certain places. I often wonder how many steps I take at work. I might have to buy one of those.

    My 13 areup .

  2. That’s really cool. I take it the pedometers have been encouraging more walking? Maybe I shoudl get one to encourage me to take the stairs…

  3. One day I decide to take it at work me too(I’m a substitute teacher). I did realise that I did a lot of walking . Only at work, I did the daily 10 000 step recommended each day.
    My 13 is up.

  4. Impressive! 1753 steps! I do a lot of lifting, (about 27 lbs. at a time) but not a lot of distance walking. Living room to potty, potty to kid room, kid room to kitchen; you get the idea.

  5. It’s many more steps than that. My water bottle needs constant filling and that results in multiple runs to the bathroom.. I was at 7312 steps when I left work today *go me*.

I haven’t hit the magic 10,000 at work yet but I am getting closer.

  6. Thanks for stopping by my TT!

Either you love your pedometer or life must be very boring in the “prairie dog village”. πŸ™‚

  7. Speaking of car accidents…when DH was 18 – or shortly there after….he rolled (yes ROLLED) his mama’s brand new Nissan Sentra off Highway 9, down through a ditch, the car flipped, a tree went through the windshield, and he came out unharmed…not even a scratch.

  8. I think it’s something in the male genes. When my DH was 17 he skidded out on a patch of ice, hit a snowbank, vaulted through the air 200 feet, mangled the truck, put a wooden mailbox through the front windshield, got out of the truck and walked away completely unhurt.

Me, I once broke my foot getting off the couch!

  9. Fascinating TT!! πŸ˜‰
I hear pedometres are supposed to help you keep fit: you’re supposed to try to walk more than 1000 steps a day? Looks like you can get fit in your own office. i must have that figure wrong….

  10. What a unique list… Thanks for stopping by and happy belated TT πŸ™‚

  11. Interesting T13!
Thanks for stopping by! Happy 13’ing

  12. You’re going to have me counting steps all day at work tomorrow. What a fascinating take on the 13. Good luck with the pedometer!

  13. I’m imagining the size of your office now… bigger than mine…. on my way there shortly with very little sleep.

    Happy TT!

  14. Very cool! πŸ™‚ Lots of walking at work! Have fun measuring your steps. πŸ™‚

Thanks for stopping by and have a good day. πŸ™‚

  15. Wow, that’s really cool! I love to walk for exercise but I’ve never had a pedometer. Sounds like it would be fun, though! πŸ™‚

Have a great day and a great weekend!

  16. Wow. That makes a lot of steps every day. Let’s see…8 steps to the couch, 17 steps to the bathroom, 14 steps to the kitchen sink…I’m not doing nearly so well.

Thanks for visiting, and happy T13!

  17. Great list!
    Very original…
I don’t think I have ever counted steps it might be fun.
    Have a wonderful day!
    My TT is posted

  18. That is a riot – I sometimes count steps in my head unconsciously – I should get a pedometer and see how close I come! — you had asked about the Serenity mention on my TT – it was in the movie – after Inara and Mal escape from the companion training house, they send out fake beacons so that the Alliance can’t track Serenity. Maybe you’ve just blanked on that scene for some reason.
    hth! Thanks for visiting!

  19. you’ve reminded me of my love of my pedometer. i must search for and find it. if not, i’ll get another and store it here @ work. the office is small but i like knowing the numbers and will probably even try to increase my steps. my TT is posted.

  20. Okay, how’d I miss you this week???? What’s MY excuse??

Anyway, I loved my ped, but the second time it went swimming altered its personality beyond repair. Maybe I ought to try to set it right again. (I highly advise a ped leash!!!)

  21. Great list! I have a pedometer, but rarely use it. I guess I’ll have to find it and use it again; this is fun.
    Thanks for visiting my TT!

  22. […] As I get older, I find I’m getting rounder and rounder. Sure, oblong or round are shapes, but not the ones humans are supposed to be in, I’m sure. Keeping track of my walking with my pedometer has been fun, but I still haven’t managed to crack the 10,000 steps a day barrier. Since I’m terribly lazy by nature, I am joining Trying to Catch Up on her will exercise for comments blog pledge. […]
