Thursday Thirteen – Pre-Travel Checklist

Welcome to the 13th edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen.

I know I’ve briefly mentioned this over the past few weeks, but it’s official – I’m heading to India from Jan 24th (landing Jan 25th) through Feb 22nd. I’ll then fly off to Manila from Feb 22nd through March 8th. Now the fun begins as I madly dash through all the preparations for the trip. Tickets have been purchased, travel visa’s have been applied for and the days before departure are flying by.

This week’s Thursday Thirteen outlines things I need to do before I can step foot on a plane.

Thirteen Things about SHE. Things I need to do before my trip.

  1. Act like a pin cusion and get my vaccinations for my trip to India – Jan 23rd.
  2. Attend a No Kidding! executive meeting – Jan 13th.
  3. Finish outstanding work projects – 1) Complete the training CSAT performance analysis and draft the final report. 2) Finish my current design and development projects and hand them off to co-workers. 3) Begin coding a simulation for language comprehension assessment.
  4. Purchase meds in prep for my trip to India and the Philippines – Pepto, Ranitadine, Tylenol, etc.
  5. Purchase some Salwar Kameez to wear. The blouses and skirts I traditionally wear in Manila aren’t really appropriate for business dress in India.
  6. Visit my dentist to fix the tooth I chipped last week ;(
  7. Find my travel cell phone – I have two cells, one tied to a North American network and one that’s open and can be used in South Asia and the Philippines. I know it’s here somewhere…
  8. Load my iPod with the music I can’t live without.
  9. Get my passport back from the India Consulate.
  10. Learn how to use my new digital camera so I can take lots of pictures while roaming around India and Manila.
  11. Find a spare battery for my laptop – Dell really needs to update their Web site. Their order screen is still displaying the wrong battery for the model I have.
  12. Purchase USD traveller’s cheques.
  13. Pack my bags – leaving lots of room to bring home goodies for all my friends and family.

  1. Congratulations, and have fun!!

Will you be able to find the salwar qamiz around your area? I’m lucky enough to live where I can find all styles of clothes…which makes my visits to the midwest that much more jarring.

  2. Thursday Thirteen: There’s a Blog for Almost EVERYTHING!…

    75

It took me almost three days to gather these links, so I hope you’ll find some of them useful

Life with Christ “Life with Christ is all about living your life for God to the fullest. One thing we feel is important is to share you…

  3. We have a huge south asian population in Edmonton and I’m fortunate enough to work only a few blocks from where a number of shops that sell Sari’s, Salwar Kameez, Kurti’s, etc. I’m looking forward to finding some I like on a shopping trip this weekend. I’m sure the hubby is dreading being dragged along to provide his opinion.

  4. Yikes. Chipped tooth. I got me one of those. I have a porcelaine veneer on it. Started off with bondings, though. Trip to India? Wow…. Nice.

  5. Have a safe trip, also, if you don’t mind me suggesting- you should look into some of the “natural” medicines to help your body adjust after being vaccinated to prevent any adverse reactions. We lost a child in 93′ from a vaccine reaction, and I believe that we all should educate before we vaccinate, being that you have to travel, it is understandable to get the vaccines, but protect yourself from any possible reactions. Stay healthy and have a safe trip! Best wishes!!

  6. I saw your site as a renter on tiggerprr’s site, and then you commented on my Thursday Thirteen!

When I have more time, I’ll have to ready our blog from the beginning so that I’m more “in the know” and can comment more intelligently.

Have a wonderful and safe trip!

  7. Wow, have a super trip! Happy TT!

  8. Wow…glad I don’t have to do all that, although I would love to travel to Asia one day. Have a safe and happy trip.

  16. Ooooh, I hope you figure out your camera, and that you post a lot of pictures here when you get back.

Good luck getting everything done… especially the tooth. OUCH.

  17. A real world traveler! I”m impressed. I gripe when my husband has to travel across our country on business trips. I can’t imagine him going all over the world. Are you nervous as a woman travelling by yourself, or is it old hat?

  18. excellent list of 13’s….that’s certainly a lot to get accomplished….but boy what a trip!

  19. Sounds like WAY too much fun! Don’t these preparations just increase your excitement… and your anxiety! Don’t forget the TUMS!

Have fun and have a safe journey! Thank you for visiting my blog.

  20. Good luck with all of your travel preparations! Enjoy your trip and have fun. 🙂 Can’t wait to see all the photos when you’re back!

  21. Hope you get everything done! Enjoy your trip.

MY TT is up…ways I plan to pamper myself in 2007!

  22. Noillirac – I love traveling. Whether or not I’m nervous has a lot to do with where I end up and what I’m doing. I’m not traveling alone this trip – I’ll be meeting up with co-workers from other offices once I land in India, so I’m not really worried about how the trip will go.

Granted, I always find the most nerve wracking part being the trip through Customs and Security at the airports. They all have different processes and it’s hard to keep track of what you’re expected to do where. Some pat you down, others make you take your shoes off, some want you to turn all your electronics, other could care less…

Photos and blog entries will definitely be posted while I’m away.

  23. Ouch! Hope you have a great trip!

  24. Have a great trip! Dont forget your toothbrush! lol

  25. Load that Ipod ALOT!

  26. PJ – it’s actually quite funny that you mentioned the toothbrush.

Years ago I used to travel with an Oral B battery operated toothbrush. I always carried it in my carry on so I could brush my teeth while traveling. Once when I went through security, the male guards burst out laughing. Then, they called over all their young mail friends to take a look at the xray image of my bag. I had no idea what was going on until an older female security agent took one look at the laughing mass of young male employees and loudly stated “you guys know that’s a toothbrush right?” Immediately after they all started blushing and my bag finally made it through the xray machine for me to pick up.

    Silly little boys!

  27. […] My Thursday Thirteen list included a reference to needing to visit my dentist. I’m beginning to wonder if perhaps someone from their office doesn’t read my blog since this morning I received a phone call to remind me that I need to make an appointment for my bi-annual check-up and cleaning. Very nice of them to remind me of my upcoming need to visit my favourite torturer. Granted, the timing of the call was excellent and I now have an appointment scheduled for Jan 18th. […]

  28. Wow, I’d love to go to India and that part of the world.

    My 13 is up.

  29. Have an awesome and safe trip!

My Thursday Thirteen #25 The Favorite TV Shows Edition Is up so stop by if you get a moment. Have a great Thursday.

  30. How’re you going to exercise for comments while you’re gone?

    Have a great trip.
Will you be blogging when you’re gone, and should I send you hockey updates? *grin*

    Happy TT!

  31. I’ll be blogging while I’m gone but I always appreciate hockey updates. Speaking of hockey, I’ve got tickets to the Edm/Calgary game on the 20th. Better learn how to use my new camera for sports shots long before then.

All of the hotels I’ll be staying in have gyms, so I’ll have a place to work out while I’m away. The only days I won’t be doing much of anything will be the 24/25th, Feb 22/23 and March 8 – I’ll be crammed into the back of the cattle cart (I’m flying coach) on those days.

I’ll just have to work out twice as hard when I land to make up for any comments received during that time period.

  32. Wow, a trip to India! I’d love to go. Hubby and I both India-philes. 🙂 I hope you have a marvelous trip, and happy TT!

  33. Jealous, you betcha. My worldly travels ranged from Long Island, BC to Montreal, to a bunch of the really west states and a 8 hour jaunt to Tijuana until we went to Manila last year. A week doesn’t go by where we don’t talk about our next trip there. Even the stops at the Mineappolis, Tokyo and Seattle airports have their funky memories. The desktop of my work computer is the fountain in the front of the Manila Pen. Travelling changes your life and I love it. My job will never involve travel other than provincially, and hubby’s won’t again with this employer, but I yearn for the day we can pull out the passports again. Hug Eula for me. I miss her too.

Are you staying at the Pen in Manila again?

Are you going to go to the health club at the hotel????? Blogging & jogging minutes don’t just count when you are at home.

  34. It sure will keep you busy until the big day!! HAve fun during our trip for the oth of us!!!

  35. Thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment on my TT … It looks like you’re gonna be walking LOTS on your treadmill with all of the comments that you’re getting!

Have a furry wonderful time in the Philippines and in India. Travel first-class (I’d have to be in baggage!) …

    DMM

  36. DaisyMae – Luckily my hubby had enough foresight to suggest I do an extra 20 minutes on the treadmill to make up for any comments that come in while I’m walking my way to better health. So, I still have a few banked minutes – about 10 – before I need to get back on the machine of pain.

I’d love to fly first class, but unfortunately it wasn’t an available option this trip. Here’s hoping that I’ll get free miles upgrades if there are any available seats.

mcpypr – I’ll be back at the Pen again when I’m in Manila and Eula left a comment on my blog earlier today. I’ll be giving her lots of hugs from all of us here as I’m sure we all miss her like crazy. If the commenting keeps up like it has been today, I’ll be in and out of the hotel health clubs/gyms in Gurgaon, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore and Manila all day every day.

  37. Oh my. Sounds like you’ll be very busy. Do enjoy the trip though.

  38. Sounds exciting. Be sure to get the camera working and don’t forget cable to download photos to laptop.

  39. The best part of my new camera is that I don’t need the cable to download photos. My laptop has an internal card reader that just happens to read the same cards as my camera takes – go me. Granted, now that means I have no excuses not to post lots of pictures.

So, maybe this is the time to mention that the hubby is the photographer of the family (he’s really good) and I’m the one that cuts people’s heads off…

Don’t want anyone getting their hopes up.

  40. Busy! Busy! Busy!

    Mine’s up too 🙂

    And here’s another minute!
