the time has come to leave you

Once again I wave goodbye to Bangalore and fly through Singapore to land in Manila. In order to make use of my existing ticket and save money, I have to fly back to Edmonton via Manila. 56 hours in the air or in airport lounges, and just over 12 hours in Manila to grab a bite to eat with my friends before starting the last half of the journey back to the great white north.

*sigh*

I won’t miss the crazy work hours, but I will really miss India and the Philippines. The sounds, the smells, the food – and most importantly – the people.

  1. I am sure a certain hubby will be glad to see you back in sloppy old Edmonton.

  2. For a person who hasn’t travelled that much, this is just fascinating to me. I mean, 56 hours to get to Edmonton?! Amazing. You’ll love it when you get back here, although if it’s been warmer than +8 where you are you might wonder what I’m talking about and still be freezing when you step off the plane. But people here are almost in their shorts already.

  3. Sounds like something video conferencing was invented for.

  4. Oh, I missed that you’re already overseas. I’d thought you were headed away from Edmonton, only to return after 12 hours on the ground elsewhere.

  5. mcpypr – He’ll have to wait another day – I’m stuck in Manila until Tuesday morning – I’ll post the story later- and now am not going to get home until after 11pm ;(

Joy – It’s been +26 or higher everywhere I’ve been since the end of Jan – but it’s only been humid in the Philippines. There are some up-sides to India in the winter… if you can survive the perpetual dust. Good thing I know exactly where my winter coat is – at the bottom of my new (and newly broken) suitcase.

Saskboy – This was a pretty long trip (4 weeks in India, 1 week in the Philippines). Sure, video conferencing is nice, but you can’t actually see what’s going on and learn about things people don’t normally talk about if you’re not on-site. And don’t be fooled by my constant griping – I do love to travel. It’s just that after a few weeks, I love to come home and see the hubby too!
