Welcome to the 28th edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen.

Recently, I’ve falling into the bottomless pit that is Facebook. I’m slowly crawling my way back out again. This week’s T13 is dedicated to the reasons why Facebook sucked up so much of my time these past few weeks…(I blame it all on Darcey).

Thirteen reasons I suffered a brief addiction to Facebook.

  1. My in-laws are on Facebook – it’s an easy way to catch up on what’s going on in their lives.
  2. I connected with over a dozen people I’d gone to pre-school and elementary school with. We’d all grown up together and in many cases followed each other through until high school I missed my 10 year high school reunion, so this was my first opporuntity to catch up.
  3. My college roomies are all on Facebook now. We had to share memories and drinking stories.
  4. I needed to view the updated pictures of my godchild.
  5. Some of my childhood friends were on an exchange trip with the school my husband attended. I needed to get pictures from his high school years and pick up stories from the time before we’d me.
  6. I’ve re-connected with my childhood best friend, who I hadn’t communicated with since grade 8.
  7. Kids I babysat as infants are now in university and I had to catch up on what’s new in their lives through their Facebook pages.
  8. Everyone needed to see pictures of the hubby once he’d returned from his month away in the field. Otherwise, no one would believe he’d grown a mustache and hadn’t shaved his head in over a month.
  9. I reconnected with the guy who’d introduced me to my hubby. I had to spend time thanking him.
  10. I had to post messages of adoration on Clayton’s Facebook page.
  11. I wanted to know who else worked at the same college I am now employed by.
  12. I needed to commisserate with former co-workers on the groups message boards.
  13. Facebook is a social software phenomenon that we’ve been discussing at work and that has been the feature of some presentations at the eLearning conference I’m attending this week. I was doing research!

  1. I’ve never used facebook. Is is better/same as myspace? I’ll have to give it a try! 🙂 Great TT! I love reconnecting with old friends. Hope you have a wonderful week!

  2. I have not heard about ‘facebook’ so I will go and have a look. To think that kids you use to babysit, are all grown up now… Makes you feel old doesn’t it (not insult intended by the way)…
It can be a bit scary looking into these sort of things…
Stop by our place, our list is up if you want to have a look…
    Cheers
    Bernie

  3. Thank goodness it is summer…otherwise all my school volunteering would go down the tubes…because I KNOW that I am now going to follow you in your obsession!!! I’ve never even looked at Facebook…just myspace to “monitor” my kids’ mind-numbingly boring self-absorption.

  4. This sounds great, thanks for warning me.
I’ll just have to avoid Facebook if I’m aiming to live non-virtual life LOL

    Cheers!

  5. Not sure I want to try facebook yet!

    Happy TT!

  6. Research, eh?

I know I ought to get on Facebook and MySpace, too. Time, time, time.

  7. See that’s why I’m afraid to delve in. I might never get out again!

  8. Facebook, huh? I’m intrigued. I’ll have to check it out…like I need something else to do!

  9. People kept telling me about it and I was getting all these invites so I decided to check it out. Groan! Let’s just say I’ve spent a few hours on there. Problem with me though is, everyone is married so unless I know their married names I can’t find people from school, etc. Lots of clubs to join too. It can be a bit addicting for sure, but I think I’m done setting everything up so maybe I won’t spend as much time on there now. Ya right.
