Trees already?

Perhaps I’m just not cut out to enjoy the Christmas season the way others do but I just don’t understand why people are already putting up their Christmas trees and it’s only mid-November. Just because the stores are filled with Christmas ornaments and holiday music is filling the radio airwaves does not mean that we’re ready to celebrate the season in this house. Our family tradition has always been to put up our tree the week before Christmas. It doesn’t take long. We have limited ornaments – one for each year we’ve been together with a smattering of others we’ve received as gifts over the year. Seems to fit us well.
While we’re waiting for mid-December to arrive there’s a boat load of things we need to do. I have exams to write and Drew has squadron parties to attend. We have lots of coffee, warm socks, and munchies to deliver to the local warming centre. There’s always a need and you can never drop by too often when you come bearing goodies.
Lights have to be strung up around the house and we must not forget to swap out the all season tires for winter tires on the truck.
There’s lots to do and much of it is in the spirit of the season. I just don’t get the mid-November tree action.

I noticed trees about mid october here.
Our family tradition states, not before December 1st, and it must be down by the 31st. The new year cannot start with the tree up.

I LOVE Christmas. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I have all kinds of knick knacks – snowmen, a Christmas village I add to every year, a set of the cast of Rudolph (Rankin Bass version) in plush, and now a set of action figures of Santa Claus is Coming To Town AKA the red-headed santa. I have 30 Christmas CDs. Decorating is a big thing for me, I love to make the entire house feel festive.
And even I don’t start before December 1st. Who has time? It’s just going to get dusty.
And the last thing I want is for my moving, singing Bing Crosby doll to get dusty.
