Thursday Thirteen – Morning Routine

Welcome to the sixth edition of the screaming pages Thursday Thirteen. Happy Thanksgiving to all my US based visitors.

We all have morning routines. Some get up and immediately run for the coffee pot. Others hit the snooze button. This week’s Thursday Thirteen lists the thirteen things that make up my weekday morning routine.

Thirteen Things about SHE. Thirteen things I do when I get up in the morning.

  1. Hit the snooze button – I set my alarm clock a few minutes early just so I can hit the snooze button at least 2x before I crawl out of bed each morning. I don’t know why I bother. Once the dogs are up, I’m expected to get up too. They do everything their little brains can think of to get me out of bed. Fifty pound dogs jumping on your chest to wake you up is not a pleasant way to get up in the morning.
  2. Let the dogs out – Better to do it now than risk having them trip me when I’m trying to eat. If the hubby is home, they just go outside to play when I wake up. On cold or rainy days I can’t go very far because they’ll be desperate to get back inside as soon as possible. If it’s warm or snowing, it’s next to impossible to get them back inside.
  3. Breakfast – I’m not a big breakfast person. Normally it’s limited to yogurt, fruit and juice.
  4. Fill the dog and cat food and water dishes.
  5. Brush my teeth – A necessity after eating breakfast.
  6. Shower – ‘Nuff said.
  7. Pick out clothes to wear – Small house means small closets. I run back and forth between three rooms trying to determine what to wear, which blouses match which pants, etc. I love Fridays simply because I get to dress in T-shirts and jeans. No colour coding required.
  8. Find my glasses – I’ve been wearing glasses for over 1/2 of my life. You’d think by now that I’d have a set place where I put them when I take them off before bed. That would make sense. I never seem to take them off in the same place twice and I can never remember where I put them the next morning. Some days this can result in an amusing running around like a chicken with my head cut off routine.
  9. Check the weather – If I were smart, I’d check the weather when I let the dogs out. Most morning my eyes are barely open when they run past my legs and head for the yard. Smart doesn’t happen until after my first coffee in the morning…
  10. Change my clothes – See, if I checked the weather before I got dressed, I wouldn’t waste time changing clothes. After checking the weather I’ll usually change something: put on a sweater, add socks, put on a blouse, change my pants, etc.
  11. Fix my hair – I can’t do my hair until I get dressed. If I don’t put my clothes on first, my hair will stick out everywhere.
  12. Make/Grab lunch – Mad dash search to find sustenance to take to work.
  13. Mommy’s got to go to work” – When the door opens, the dogs want to go out and play. I’ve trained the dogs to back away from the door and let me out in the morning by saying “Mommy’s got to go to work”. They’re so well trained that they’ll walk away from the door and let me out on weekends or in the evening when I say this.

  1. …I generally repeat #1 three or four times…is that bad?

    Have a good weekend!!

  2. I have to do #8 right after my feet hit the floor :o)

  3. I’m a major snoozer. 🙂 Wish I had a morning routine… Well, i do, but it’s more of a rush up and get out of the house sort of routine.

  4. I love my snooze button. REALLY love the button.

  5. Cool list. 🙂 We don’t hit the snooze button, but we do have three alarm clocks, all set a few minutes apart. 😉 And back in Canada, as soon as we’d wake up, we would turn on the Weather Network, so that we’d know what the weather was like. Not too important for hubby – he was wearing DEUs no matter what the weather, but it did let him know whether he would be wearing the sweater or not!

I tend to misplace my glasses too, which isn’t too important, since I wear contacts most of the time (can’t stand glasses when I’m running or working out – they slip down my nose.)

    Happy T13. 🙂

  6. Thanks for the peek into your morning routine! Happy Thanksgiving!
My TT is about past life regression.

  7. Where’s the one about putting your compuer on and check ing your blog comments?

Mine are a little mixed up.

  8. Colleen: That’s not always part of my morning – as much as I’d like it to be. It’s all the snooze button’s fault! If I’m working from home, then checking my blog (and others) in the am is easy to do before I have to start work. If I’m driving into the office – like today – then it’s not something I normally do on any day other than Thursday…

  9. Nice idea for a Thursday 13 – list. I used to beat up my alarm clock every morning… till I woke up before it rang… got a cute little son (7 month old)… the most beautiful alarm I can imagine =)

  10. I set my alarm clock 10 minutes ahead and then use those minutes to lay around in bed. 🙂 I’m cool like that! Love reading everyone’s morning routines. They’re all so different and yet the same, right?

    Have a lovely Thursday!

(Thanks for stopping by Snarkypants and commenting on my mom tribute!)

  11. Happy Thanksgiving and Happy TT!

  12. Glad I’m not the only one who loves the nooze button.

    Happy TT!

  13. Heh… no, you don’t get to sleep any longer when the dogs arrive. Sort of what happens with me and my cats (only they’re much smaller, of course… but equally as wet-nosed). 🙂

Thanks for stopping by my T13. To answer your question, the recipe isn’t a family secret… it’s actually the turkey made on the Food Network’s Good Eats show. 🙂 If you’d like the recipe, just drop me a line.

  14. Sounds like a hectic morning! Great dogs, tho 🙂

  15. I do a lot of the same … but in a different order.

Thanks for stopping by mine 🙂

  16. AH the morning routine… Mine is similar…though since I had to move, the letting out the dog no longer happens. I also wait until I get to work to eat breatfast…
    Happy TT

  17. That’s a great routine! Mine is similar, except for the snooze. I get up before my husband; our 2 dogs get up when I do. They wait anxiously until I say, “It’s time to get Daddy up.” Then all chaos ensues as they race to the bedroom and jump on the bed. Thanks for stopping by today; I enjoyed your blog very much. I believe this is the first time I’ve been here! Have a wonderful weekend and drop by again anytime!

  18. Very great list!
    I don’t like getting up in the morning… 😀
    And I like your blog.

Hope you had a happy thanksgiving.

    Greetings from Germany,
    Sonny

  19. The snooze button, my best friend, or dreaded aid in constant lateness? I’m not sure which most days. 🙂 It’s nice to see another person that takes a while to wake up!

Thanks for dropping by yesterday, I’m just now catching up!
